Help with Predator 212 and Go Kart - Start in the Air (off ground) but not on ground

Hello everyone,

Replacing a Honda GX160 engine with a Predator 212cc as something popped on the Honda after the kids hooked up a small garden tractor trailer and loaded up some kids and were driving around the field.

So I purchased a Predator 212 and have it all hooked up and it seems to run just fine if the rear wheels are off the ground. When I lower it on the ground or apply the brake it will stall out the engine. Try to start in when all four wheels are on the ground and it might stutter but it won't run/idle.

Any suggestions? Thank you everyone for your help.

The kids probably cooked the clutch towing that trailer, and it's binding up.

You can try lubricating the bushing, but you'll probably have to replace it.

It is possible it's just idling too high as well. When you go to pull start it, does it feel like it's trying to move as you pull?

Thank you for your reply. I think your right about the clutch. Any suggestions for a new one? I have played with the idle screw with limited success it was idled on the low end and I detect the idle/engine speeding up as I turn clockwise.

Clutch suggestions would be awesome otherwise I will just pick a 12 tooth 3/4" off Amazon or Ebay and install.

Get a max-torque. They are a little pricier than the no-brand ones (~$30 instead of ~$15), but as far as non-racing go kart clutches, they are among the best.

I'd say towing a trailer with a bunch of kids will even ruin a racing clutch.

Sooo.. fix the clutch, and tell the kids not to ruin it again
