Was wondering if you could help me with wiring for my project. I am building an electric go-kart and have purchased all the components new. Just want to make sure I get the wring correct. I am very mechanically inclined and somewhat electrically inclined but not electronics. This project is for my 14 year old son
What I have
Curtis style FP-6 food pedal 0-5kohm
SW182 reversing switch
SW180
ME0709 motor
Altrax SR72300
I have been using the wiring diagram on page 20 of the Alltrax owners manual as my starting point. The Generic, series W/O reverse. I decided to start without reverse just to make sure everything works. I hooked it all up yesterday but got nothing. Here are some things that do not exactly match from the diagram that I had to change
Foot Pedal wiring
My throttle/foot pedal does not have the same colors as diagram. My foot pedal has 5 wires.
1 - Brown
2- Black
3 - Red
4 - Blue
5 - Yellow/green
I used my Ohm meter and If I put it on the Brown and Red I get resestance that starts at 5k and goes down to 0.
So correlating to the Altrax Generic diagram I put the
red from the foot pedal to the positive on the main contact,
the black from the footpedal to the J6 on the Alltrax and
the Brown from the footpedal (which is labeled white on the diagram) to the J4 on the alltrax
Was that correct or should I have gone by the numbers instead of the colors?
For the motor
My motor only has two contacts. So I just hooked one contact to the M- on the AllTrax and the other to the B+ on the Alltrax
SR180 main contact
It shows the two red wired going to the same contact. There are 4 contacts on the SR180. I saw a plus sign on one contact. Do the contacts on the same side have the same polarity or do the contacts opposite each other have the same polarity. It was hard to tell?
Kill switch.
I was trying to include a kill/run switch. It was had for a novice like me to understand the wiring for the kill switch. Looks like it should start at the positive of the battery after the fuse. Incorporate a second fuse, Then connect to one of the wires on the foot pedal. Which wire on the footpedal does it go to? It shows green foot pedal wire but I do not have a green. What type of fuse do I add?
Reversing
Once I get that done I will want to add reverse. I looked at the diagram (generic with Reverse, and was slightly confused because my motor does not have 4 poles only 2.
So how does the wiring change for two poles vs 4.
Also do I need a special reversing switch?
Three more generic questions
How can I individually check each component? For example I can check the motor by directly hooking up 12 volts. If it spins it's good.
Do I have to program the Alltrax? If so how?
I am planning for 48 Volts. Would the system work with 12, 24, 36 or 48? Or would I need new controllers?
Lots of questions. Any help would be great,y appreciated
