HELP!! excessive play in trike axle, up and down + side to side (everything is tightned down)

Hey all! I hope there is a pure genius out there who can tell me how to fix this, I'm working on a drift trike and the rear axle is wiggling about and is not secure, despite having collars on each side of the axle bearings. It almost seems like the metal inbetween the smaller, silver colored mounts is too wide to clamp onto the bearing properly. I'm sure im doing something wrong here. Any help would be much appreciated!!

Those plates holding the bearings need to sandwich them. No gap. So move the inner plates to the outside of the axle hangers or vice versa

Need a picture of the whole rear axle, but I got a feeling your going to be redoing all of it. That axle will bend without support out at the ends. Dingocat is correct about the retainer plates needing to touch each other.

I agree with Denny. You can't have a foot or more of axle sticking out from the outside bearings.
