So I have this spare GSXR 600 engine....

I'm planning on building a kart

I figure this is a good excuse for me to buy a cheap welder, get to play in my garage, learn to weld. I'm sure I will be hanging around here, seeing how you all have worked your mechanic magic.

that's a big project you are tackling. Looks like you will have some fun doint it! Check out the "search" tab up there at the top. There have been lots of people that have done the "motorcycle engine swap" or built one from the ground up with the power-plant. Its a lot of power but if you gear it right and put it on a chassis that can handle it, then you will have yourself a nice little ride.

Have you considered possibly making it a mini buggy, or are you set on the kart style? A roll cage might save your life.

No disrespect intended, but if you still have to learn how to weld, making a kart with a GSXR600 engine is just asking for trouble. With so much power you had better have 100% faith in your frame and welding, otherwise nasty things can happen. That engine could twist your frame like a pretzel if its not engineered correctly.

With that said, if you do it right you should have a nice ride.

Don't worry, I understand that it's a big project, but the point is to push my limits. To learn new skills.

I love building stuff, trying new things, always taking the road less traveled if I could. I wanted to get into ham radio, so I built a tube transciever. Wanted to get into motorcycles, so I restored one. Built my own guns, built my PC, an HD tv mounted in a 1950 tv, etc. What I lack in brainpower, I make up for in Irish stubbornness. I don't give up.

As for the design of this buggy.. years ago I saw a Chevy V6 that was mounted above a car rear axle, chain driven. Looked wild. Why can't I do the same thing with the GSXR? Flip and reverse a cars rear end, use a double row chain drive to connect the two.

A 1"x3" tube frame, a heavy Z to drop me to the ground. I figured I'd drop an old T bucket on it, just for the heck of it. I doubt it would weigh 1000lbs, around 9 foot in length, as low as I can go.
