Hello my name is A.J. I am 28 and from the St. Louis area. I grew up riding dirtbikes and atvs. Had a yard kart as a small child but was in too young to drive it and my older sisters were prompt at breaking it. The kart bug bit me in September when I visited my bro-in-law and he had two craigslist specials. One was a bare bones margay with a yellow top box stock setup for dirt and the other was a complete breadbox style haase kt100 sprint kart. As soon as the light came on I blurted "how much?" Luckly I had some extra cash and unknown too me it was already up on craigslist as it was deemed too fast for the boys. $400 and an obnoxiously whiny call to the misses pleading for approval I was loading it up. My work has a very good layout for a kart. Three parking lots in an Z pattern with smooth asphalt and a car lover as a C.E.O. After a few runs my friends began meeting me there on weekends and I was soon puppy eyed into sharing seat time. Figuring that racing is funner than taking turns I was looking for a good deal on a second one. (I've got good lifelong friends, Buying them a kart was worth it to me) stumbled on an older no name sprint kart. Was complete and guy said it ran. So I told him why I was buying another and after some quick questions had his asking price down to 1/4. He had lost interest and wanted his space so he took $400. Went to testdrive it and the l&t clutch was wasted. He said he had it tuned to slip to 10.2 so I took it to 10.5 and heard a ping. Wrist pin popped and rode the rings up the cylinder stabbing the head. Went to get a bore and it was already punched out would have needed a big bore. Disappointed I took it home and put it in the corner next to my 2001 bombardier ds650 that i always called the bombie that was in need of a complete suspension and new plastics. Both very pricey even for used parts. Then I found this forum and the inspiration was overwhelming. I will add pics and do a build thread of a very quick build (one week waiting for u.p.s and two weeks with metal shavings everywhere.) I have dubbed it the "Bombiekart" and after about 3 hours wheel time am very close to having most most kinks worked out. Thank you to everyone as this site was very informative and after I get the build thread done it just may pursuade some of you to do similiar builds as this build went very smooth and I was able to reuse almost everything but the chain and sprockets. Aside from karts I enjoy riding my 08 yammy xt250 enduro and I like to play paintball, golf, and racing games on ps3. I drive a forklift thru the week and I even enjoy that usually! I am also doing a rat resto on a 68 chevy longbed truck and will soon be doin a resto on a 44 john deere "B" tractor.
