Has anyone tried mounting a Briggs and Stratton engine onto an electric scooter body?

Hey guys, I'm a total noob about this kinda' stuff and I'm hoping that one of you has tried it before... I've got a Star II 24v electric scooter with two dead batteries that I bought at Goodwill for $10 and a 2hp Briggs and Stratton engine with a clutch driven pulley. I guess to make a short story even longer, is there an easy way to marry the two? Will the 2hp engine even be strong enough to haul a 200lb man around the yard very long without imploding? I took the batteries out and without the battery door there seems to be enough room to mount it between the seat post and the steering post. Has anybody ever tried something like this before? Any ideas or help would be appreciated. Thanks a lot, Tracy.

that engine should e good,i have one of them scooters but in a gas model,and that thing probly makes 1hp.also,those frames are VERY weak so i would reccomend taking the plastic off and reinforcing there it bends and holds the forks(major stress point)

Thanks a lot, I was thinking that I might have to take the plastic off. I've got a bigger like 2 cycle weedeater engine that might work too. I just don't know how I'd mount it to the frame, I was thinking I could take the "trunk" thing off and try to mount the engine above the back wheel somehow. I KNOW, I could buy a NEW scooter for $200 or $300, but that wouldn't be any fun, besides, then I couldn't brag about my $10 scooter. As far re-enforcing the frame goes, how about a bar connecting the seat post to the steering post like on a boy's bike, would that do any good? Did you re-enforce the frame on yours? with the briggs 2 horse you should be able to just get a mount ad bolt it onto the frame,just need to figure out a new clutch/chain setup.lol you dont wanna buy a new scooter,those 50cc engines are absolute junk.on mine where the frame is at an L for the steering,it actually broke there so i welded that back together then added a few pieces of angle iron to hold the bottom part of the frame to the verticle part.sorry i dont have any pics and the thing is burried in like 2 ft of snow lol

Thanks again, I saw a couple kinds of mounting plates on Ebay and the price wasn't too bad either. I'm going to wait until the weather gets a little warmer to take the plastic off the body and dry fit the engine to the frame and see what all I'll need. I looked at the frame and you're definitely right, it will need some bracing... I figure these were made for kids or non-fat folks unlike me. I also had the back wheel off looking at the chain, brakes and what-not and it seems like there would be enough room on the axle to just bolt a pulley to the gear that's made onto the wheel. Since the 24v motor that's on it couldn't be as strong as the 2hp Briggs... I wonder if I could put a smaller pulley (than the gear on the wheel) to get more speed out of it or just go with a big pulley to get more power to haul my big butt around? LOL. I think it's going to be fun to do this, plus the scooter already has brakes, a headlight, taillights and a horn!

i think the 2hp will be good on it,on my scooter i was jumping it and stuff and also broke off the handle bars so i put a heavy duty pipe in its place.then i got one of them asian mini choppers and put the engine from the scooter in that,blew that engine,then i recently put a ported&polished 5hp briggs flathead in it.and lemme tell you,they are alot faster with the briggs.

I'm way too old to be jumping my scooter or anything like that, plus, I had back surgery a few years ago and I definitely don't want to go through it again after the scooter breaks in two with me on it! I'd kill to see some pics of the Briggs setup on your scooter... when the snow melts that is! -Tracy

That looks like the scoot n go were doing now, we just need to get a new rear tire assembly and sproket. Im waiting untill spring because we have everything packed into the garage for winter.
