Hey everyone!

I've been observing diy go karts since I was 12 but I've never actually had one. That recently changed! I was able to get an old Carter Red Talon and I'm pumped to fix it up! It already runs fine, there's nothing catastrophically wrong with it. It's just old and needs some love and maintenance.

This likely isn't the thread for this but I think what I want to do first is center the steering and pedals. They're off to the left side and I'm kind of a bigger dude so I'd much rather have them centered.

Any tips or advised upgrades are more than welcome! I know I'm new and I know I'm gonna do a lot of things wrong. I'm ready to learn!

Right? I don't have pictures yet (other than of the engine label) because I'm making this initial post while at work but I'm pretty excited.

I'm trying to go for speed as much as I can with a cart like this and this thing does pretty well. The fastest I've gone with it is about 20MPH. I'm hoping I can bump that up if I can without swapping the engine.

The seller said that the engine was a Briggs & Stratton 5BSXS.2051HF 7 HP engine but I haven't found any documentation on that. If that is true, it's got 2 more horses on the predator 212 which seems really popular for starters.

:welcome2:

Start another thread in Go Kart Discussion and upload more pics! You know the drill...😉
And many thanks for lurking on the site for all this time.

Engine looks good, a good ol' Briggs Intek. If you give us the engine code from the valve cover (I think?) we can decipher its displacement and horsepower. If it's a 206cc (I could be wrong) then it is basically the workhorse version of the Animal racing engine. But don't tell us here, do it in the new thread you will be creating...🤝
