hey guys i got a free engine today from a lawn mower and i had to take some of if apart to clean it. heres a piks...

first off were do those to linkages go?

second they spark plug has some kind of oil deposit on it i think it was from the engine having to much oil becuase i check the compression and it doesn't seem like any oil is seeping through the rings.

That gearbox will not hold up to much. If i were you i'd cut the frame open to remove it. The "oily deposits" on the plug is just carbon build up, probably burning oil, you cant tell by looking at it after turning it over if oil is making it through the rings, it has to be running and flinging oil around to get through.

Missing governor spring on the shorter of the two linkage rods. Won't work without it.

the spring is on the engine. i need need to know where the other end of it links to?

other then that since i couldnt get the gear box off i took it apart noticed that the gear on the axel was a 42t gear so now i'm kinda pondering if i can get a a 40" axel and a 40t gear and use it with the gear box.

what do u guys think?

Long rod connects to top hole on governor arm (on block).
Other end goes to throttle valve (butterfly).
Short rod with spring connects between bottom hole on governor arm and throttle control.

Check recoil starter pawls for sticking.
Starter cup may be worn.
Spring could probably use a shot of WD-40 or Liquid Wrench.
There is grease in there which tends to dry out and harden up.
The WD-40 or Liquid Wrench will help to soften it up.
