gonna give small engine repair a try

I said I'm gonna do it in the past, but I've been too lazy. After learning about engines and reading posts all over this website, I learned enough to feel confident about repairing engines. So I ran an ad on craigslist and got one guy but he was in a rush so it didn't work out. So last week another guy texted with a broken biggs mower which was an easy fix and I gave him a flat fee of $30 which I lowered to $25 since I felt like it was more than it was worth. He chose to give me the $30 and I was grateful. This was my inspiration and I talked to my dad about it. He said to go for it and gave me $30 to get 280 flyers which I passed out in mailboxes today. So far a woman called in spanish but my dad speaks enough to get by. Now.. my question is, what can I do to get the word out? My dad told me flyers aren't a problem to buy and that he supports me doing this. Soo what would be some good things to know for this? Any advice is welcome.

throw an ad up on your local CL and that may help, and even tho your doing small engine repair do you happen to have a welder? if so you can have a welding buisness ran from your house, make the money how you can.

you have a great start but it will take time for you to get known because people want reviews on your work and the only way that happens is by people being pleased and telling their friends

I agree- it does take some time. Now I've got poeple throwing their busted crap at me constantly. Problem is, I don't have time for all of it! Not just engine repair either. I was contracted by a woman down the road to rebuild the gearcase in her big honkin' rototiller. He//, the parts alone was $300!

Okay sounds pretty good. Knowing spanish in Miami would be a plus. But, this is the U.S., and I don't have to speak it. Lol. Also, I put the listing on CL, but I can't quite figure out which section to put it in.

Craigslist is hit-or-miss for this type of posting. I've posted up my own local small-equipment repair ads the last few summers, and it's hard to keep them up because of guys who will flag it down because you can do the work cheaper and faster than them.
