Electric Wooden Go kart project

Hey Guys, as u probably noticed im new here, so hello to all!!

Im doing Design and Tech Yr 11(Australia) and hoping to make an elctric go kart/ billy cart for my Yr11 major. For a start what motors would you's suggest? I want it to move me around at approx 40-50kmh (if its possible) and as cheap as possible, say around $100 maybe $200 AUD for the motor. otherwise any motors you would suggest that arent in that price bracket. (above or below)
My cart has to be made mainly out of timber as this is the access we have at our school!, other materials can of course be added but welding is not an option at school : /

hahaha - yeh ok, pobably aiming at bit high!!

Just my friend has done a similiar thing before, with wood, that went about 30kph

im from Sydney...

50km/h in a wooden go kart... you are at the wrong place I'm afraid.

50km/h is serious speed, in a wooden kart it's a serious threat for your health.
not that it cannot be made, but it's rather unlikely that an untrained person could do that.
(we have even carpenters around here that wouldn't want to make a wooden kart.)

So yeah... no, not a good idea at all.
Rather find a prebuild kart frame and use that as your platform.
It's your health at stakes.. and nothing's too funny about breaking one's limbs (or neck)

that being said...
50km/h will be a hard goal to achieve with a small (cheap) electric motor...

so do some math (it's a school project, so you need to learn something in the process, right :D)
I've made a thread to explain the math behind motor power speeds and acceleration,
and how to calculate such things
(based on known values and some guesstimations where you cannot possibly the know correct values)

Go ahead and calculate the mechanical motor power you will need:
find said thread here

keep in mind that you will need to carry the batteries around,
and depending on the desired cruising range, those get pretty large and heavy at times.
And weight is likely one of the most important values.. do not underestimate it when doing the calculaions.

When you have that, come back and we see what options you'll be left with.

have a look around for a controller, see if you can find one that matches

btw this should probably be in the electric section...
unless you decide to use an engine instead:thumbsup:
and yeah, see if you can get a second hand frame or something
surely in yr 11 you can weld?

radio controlled toys and electric vehicles do not share motors.
