Anybody have any experience with Electric Bicycles and Batteries for them?
I'm looking for a 48V Battery pack. Something in the 15-20 amp hour range. Looking for recommendations for a good supplier. Or suppliers to stay away from. I imagine some eBay packs from China might be put together poorly or made with less than ideal cells.

It has a 1500 Watt brushless, gearless hub motor and a controller that has a switch to restrict it to 750 watts. For it to be street legal with no registration, insurance, or license ... it needs to be 750 watts or less. Claims 34 mph at 1500 watts, or 24 mph at 750 watts.

Here is what I wish I had known before purchasing this kit.
1. The motor is a standard 9C hub motor with disc brake and freewheel attachements.
2. The motor is laced into a double wall aluminum rim that is pretty thin but of decent quality.
3. The 1500W motor controller is a 15 FET model with 7.1mOhm / 100V /300 watt FET's. It's capable of living up to 1500 watts but isn't as overbuilt as some. The circuit board it self is surprisingly clean and well labeled (in english). You'd almost believe it was made in a US fab house. I can't tell if it has regen braking it's not labeled if it does have it.
4. Included with the kit is a manual that someone CLEARLY went to a lot of effort to produce. Ultimately it's still in broken english, but it's not for a lack of trying. It's certainly useable though.
5. Not pictured, but also included is a small bag intended for mounting the controller behind your bike seat. I don't think i'll use it for that purpose, but it's a nice inclusion.
In my mind, it seems that a bigger motor run at less than max power might be better than a smaller motor run at max power... but my thinking might be flawed???
I'd like to be able to get ~20 miles on a single charge with minimal pedaling. If operating at 750 watts (~15 or 16 amps) and cruising around 20 mph, a 16 amp hour battery would be completely drained after an hour. A 20 amp hour battery would be drained around 80%.
I'm aware that the battery is going run in the $400 - $600 range so I'd like a quality product. I've heard Lunacycles provides decent batteries. They use 65 Panasonic GA 3500 mAh 18650 cells. For around $600 and no charger - those packs are 17.5 amp hours. They weigh about 9 lbs and say they are good for 400-1000 charges.

eBay has listings for a number of batteries with chargers claiming 20 amp hours that cost around $400 shipped.
