Drive shaft adapter

Hi. I have an adapter that is about 2inches longer than the driveshaft. Should i cut the adapter to match the length of the shaft or does it matter?

Try it with the full length.
If it doesn’t work but would work if it were shorter, cut it.
If it works without cutting it, I’d say it doesn’t matter.

Thanks for the interesting responses. I did end up cutting the adapter to match the shaft length. Clutch is on with no issues.
