So far I've gathered is that the gear ratio is 3:1, it has front and rear suspension and headlights.

Okay, that thing would be stupid fast for me, and should at least be scary fast for you, especially out there in traffic.
What's the deal with the derailleur on the right side, is it hooked up to those pedals? Are you sitting on the battery pack?

Yes, it is. It needs to be able to move by pedaling it, otherwise, it'll be considered a moped. (in europe)
And yes, you are sitting on the battery pack, rather, a box that probably contains the controller and the battery pack.
