If any of you electric kart/bike guys want a super easy method to check for excessive voltage drops on a running vehicle:
You can use most any (digital or analog) DC voltmeter, conecting the meters positive test leed directly to the battery's + terminal, and then the meters negative test lead to your motors positive input terminal. Then simply place the volt meter where you can monitor the readings while under load as you drive the vehicle.
With this method any voltage the meter reads will be showing your amount of voltage drop. If you show a voltage drop, you could then re-locate your test meters connections to only monitor between individual componets or sections of wiring to help further diagnose your worst sources of resistance.
You'll probably notice your largest voltage drop will occur right as you take off full throttle, and also that any voltage drop issues will only worsen after you drive for awhile and get everything heated up more and more.
You can use this same simple method to check for a voltage drop in the ground circuit too. (just reverse your volt meters +/- test leed connections) Having a good ground is just as important as the positive voltage side.
Your almost always going to show some voltage drop while under a heavy load when first taking off and this test will only give meaningful results with wide open throttle operation. I like to keep voltage drops under 2 volts in high amperage draw circuits like this but of course finding no voltage drop at all would be best.
