That's one way to do it.
What about making a frame and putting on a tow receiver. Then just lift bike onto frame and go. Granted it wouldn't have the security that it does inside.

The reason I was thinking of doing this...
Because I can have two or three bikes in there at a time, so if I have to move a bike I can just slide it over in the van - without unhooking each bike.
