What are some good things to get motors and controllers from for a go kart? How can you get good
used batteries for cheap?
I may be interested in making a battery go kart in the
future

Are washing machine motors dc?
I don't think I'd want an ac motor due to the ineficiency of going from dc to ac
how fast could a 200lb adult go with the motor from an electric scooter? If I were
to build one I'd want to go at least in the 30s

That's going to be a decent sized motor! Unless electric is absolutely necessary, any 2 or 4 stroke motor will give you much better results for much less money.

Electric stuffols = expensive. 30MPH is a tall order if you're on a budget.

Currie 900W 24V motor overvolted to 48V with 4x 10aH batteries geared at 11/90 gave me a range of rougly 3-4 miles with continuous WOT and a top speed of 24MPH (GPS'd), torque was phenomenol and could climb a 45 degree hill from a dead stop right below it :)
