I have a 2000 Subaru B4 with an EJ20t in it. When ever I brake heavily I get a shudder in the steering wheel and feel the pedal pulsing. I thought it could be excessive runout on my discs. How much is to much runout? I have measured one dic and it was about 10-15 thou.

Any other things to look for/check.

Cheers.

Hi, I had a similar problem with my Geo Tracker, I just had to have the disk's turned down.

I second cm. Usually your disks have excessive runout because modern disks are cheaply made. Try getting them turned down and if that dosent help look into your control arm bushings, suspension bushings, ball joints, or anything that would cause your front end to shudder under pressure.

I had a Honda Accord that would wobble severely when I braked hard from highway speed. I figured out that it was because of a worn bushing in a rod that went from the wheel to the front center of the car. The momentum of the car caused the car to go forward while the wheel was pulled backward by braking friction on the road. The worn bushing allowed the rod to pull back, which threw the wheels into a toe-out condition, which caused the wobbling. I replaced the bushings on both sides and fixed the problem.

Antilock braking systems frequently cause pulsing in the pedal when you tromp on it really hard. Your shuddering problem could be caused by uneven wear on the rotors, or slack in the suspension somewhere.
