Dune Buggy/Klipper Kart
Hello fellow members.
They call me Pyro (because my name is too difficult and not because I like fire.) I'm a semi-capable DIYer but don't have lots of time. (That's why my projects sit for too long.) My son fell in love with my old VW dune buggy from the late 1960s and always mentioned he wanted a buggy of his own. We went out and bought him a battery powered dune buggy from Craigslist that he has enjoyed for a few years now.
Well after a few years, the time came that he outgrew the plastic dune buggy, so I went on a hunt a few weeks ago for a go-kart.
I ended up picking up a Klipper Kart (Comet II go-cart) locally via Craigslist again. The kart needed a bit of work, but she's original for the most part and after a few hours worth of work she's a runner. She needed her carb cleaned out, some Sea Foam in the gas to clean out the gas lines, and a few nuts and bolts tightened for safety reasons. So now we're the proud owners of a early 1990s Klipper Kart. She's still a bit too big for my son, but I'll form some bolster supports so he can reach the pedals, and we're a "good to go."
Thank you to the current members and to the forum owners for setting up the forums and for keeping them going. It's great to see a large group of people with similar interests being able to share ideas and help each other out.
Anyone else out there in the Chicagoland area?
