ok, I took off the fuel hose a whole bunch of gas came pouring out so its not the fuel hose. Luckily, I had an oil pan under the thing (that I clean the oil out of) But I am still trying to get the smell of gas out of my garage.

Then you obviously did NOT take my advice (even though you "thanked" me?) when I told you days ago to put a tablespoon a fresh fuel down the intake or you would've found that the motor itself runs.... wait, you're going to get a new carb to replace a new carb when a fuel line could've been the issue? Why wouldn't you feed fuel into to the inlet and see if the bowl fills up? If it doesnt then you find out why it doesnt, if you want to have a bunch of downtime while waiting for parts instead of learning to fix stuff then why are you here asking for advice!? Why did you not just put that engine in the car, drive to HF and return for a new one. All that would cost is the price of gas getting to the place. I really don't understand. Unless you have something physically stopping you going to the shops (like covid), then please don't waste our time .

Well, since the engine didn't run at first and I had to change the spark plug, should I return it or keep it? There could be other things wrong with the engine but probably not, I'll post a video of it running tomorrow and you guys tell me.

If it works, just keep it. You can put it on a real go kart some day. The price will only go up as time goes on.

Sorry brianator that I did not take your advice sooner truth is I didn't have any gas left from filling it up and I couldn't figure out how to drain out any of the fuel without gas getting everywhere but it ran when I took your advice it ran so thanks and sorry.

No worries man, hope I earned some trust at least! Lol. I know what you mean about draining fuel, sure theres a drain plug on the bowl but holy heck I can never avoid making a mess! Lol. I have an idea for a tool id like to make and add to the collection to help with that, when I get around to it I'll share for all to enjoy.

For the fuel bowl collection, I just use a cut off section of a water or pop bottle.... enough to get you hand with the wrench under and also big enough to catch the drip when it starts...

My idea also involves a cut off bottle but the plan is to cut the bottom off, put a 1/4" extension through the cap so you can put a ratchet or driver handle on it, loosen the main bowl nut to drain the bowl completely. The second part involves a "spigot" on the side with a hose so I can drain a tank and siphon off any "overflow" in to another container. Maybe I'll whip something up later today

You guys act like your afraid of a little gas.

Let it dribble down your hand and then use a rag to wipe the fresh cut grease off your hands.

Then use the gas the spilled in the engine to do the same. Little clean up as you go.

Now if it's old stale varnish type gas then yeah. That stuff stinks for a while.

Not afraid of gasoline..I reckon ill take the smell of gas to Diesel anyday...
That crap is horrid... it really stays in your skin and clothes if spilt there...

I get it its an oil... but man that smell...

I don't mind the gas and oils, but the 90w or gear oils smell to me.

And the feel of antifreeze and brake fluid make me go find a clean rag quick.

If you want some good clean your hands try AvGas. It will suck all the oils out of your skin too.
But it sure does smell good out the tailpipe of a big V8.
