broaching - linear/rotary who has the tools ?

I will get the chance to do linear broaching soon on my project and was wondering who on site has done it.
It looks very simple to cut the keyway inside of a hole, far easier than I had thought it would be.

I have a few 3/4" tools here and/or on there way now.

It's easy with an arbor press in a sprocket, gear or hub... Blind ones are better done on a shaper...
Don't be stingy on the lubricant... Keep well oiled when using...
Just remember to pass the tool completely through, it'll otherwise dull or damage the broach... We used a small punch or rod to poke it through, and a heavy glove to catch it fall through.

It looks easy and fun to do holes but cutting a keyway in a shaft looks to be a bit more involved.

Yes in a shaft, typically you need a mill... There are devices out there for shafts, but of a much larger diameters...

I watched a video of a cool old geezer that used his metal lathe to cut the keyway in a shaft.
He made a fixture for holding the shaft that clamped into the tool holder and he modified the collet to hold the bit in the chuck, seemed to work very well.

I'm thinking of buying a grizzly mill/lathe combo (G4015Z) its just a little one but I don't have a lot of room so I think it would be good for me.

I've seen it.. That's cool...
It can be done... It requires alot of lubricant and slow feed/thin cut..
It's defiantly a cool jig and very useful once you have it..
