briggs engine smells

hey everybody. just did a rebuild of my engine and its completely cleaned out and has brand new oil. but when i run it, it really starts to stink bad. is this normal or should i just deal with it?

replacing piston is indeed a rebuild.
Not near enough.

As long as everything was done "by the book", I would not be concerned about smell. Probably just residual oils burning off.
Why was piston replaced and were rings also replaced?

Ring circumference varies as does cylinder bore. No two engines are ever identical.
If end gaps are too tight, could result in binding due to expansion when rings/cylinder heat up. If there is no room for expansion (gap too small) this could cause engine to overheat and possibly seize. Would be the equivalent of running without oil. Specs are there for a reason and should be strictly adhered to.
I'm not saying it will seize...but it is something you should be aware of.
A difference of .001 can make the difference between success and failure.
