brake suggestions for bike with ATV tires

I'm in the planning stage on a bike with ATV tires. The rim is 10 inches wide, and the inside of the rim where you would put a drum brake is like a huge cavern 7.5 inches in diameter.

What kind of brake would you use on this kind of wheel? I could build the rear hub with three flanges, one for the sprocket, one for the rim, and one for the brake. I can do this because the hole in the center of the rim is 4.25 inches in diameter, so as long as the brake mounting flange is small enough to fit through the hole, I could pass that end through the hole during assembly.

With this in mind, should I just get a cheap drum brake from a go kart supply website? How about a disc? The ones I've seen for sale are all the kind that mount on a keyed shaft.

I think I have a good idea of how to build the hub, but I thought I should open it up for suggestions to see if you guys have any better ideas.

with that size tire youll need a jackshaft to run higher gearing so mount the brake on the jackshaft or use a band on the clutch if your not using a torque converter. Or if you are using a torque converter you can extend that jack shaft out the back and mount a brake on that like an old Heald super bronc . It will be much more effective than mounting it on the wheel because the gearing advantage

The best thing to do would be to go to a salvage yard and grab a full rear hydraulic disk brake setup from a motorcycle. This would get you a disk (which you could make a hub for) and brake caliper, some hydraulic line, and a master cylinder. Plus it would already be bled, so you could just mount the components and have cheep awesome brakes in no time.

The idea of having the brakes on the jack shaft would work, but your not going to be happy if the chain falls off or breaks....

if you do use the brake on the jackshaft, I would say go up a size or 2 on the chain and sprocket. some custom motorcycles use a set up like this.

Believe it or not, I'm not using a jack shaft because I found a weird clutch (brand new) on ebay that has only 8 teeth and 40 size chain.

There's a really good scrap yard nearby that has a lot of dead motorcycles. Maybe I'll find a good brake on one of those. I had mostly been thinking of standard go kart equipment until you mentioned motorcycle parts. Thanks for the tip.
