Hi everyone,

I’m replacing the two stroke 33cc Tanaka engine on my Blade Z gokart with a brand new two stroke 49.5cc non-OEM engine. Any advice on proper preparation before starting the new engine? I’m new to gokarts and small engines. Thank you!

Make sure that you mix the oil with the gas in the correct proportion. It could be different from the other engine. Once you get it running don't over rev it or lug way down. Drive it easy and change speeds frequently, not staying at the same
rpm for the first half hour or so.

Thanks for the advice. The engine didn’t come with any instructions. I was doing 25:1 mix with the previous engine. That was what the original owner used. Is that a good mix for a two stroke engine?

The new motor looks legit. What is it like riding it?

Have you seen people adding a Rotaderp 212cc on these? Hellion wonders if pneumatic tires can be added...

I meant what is it like riding one in general, old engine or new?
How fast was it with the old 33cc engine? Did you ever GPS yourself?

At least now you will have a basis for comparison having ridden it with the smaller engine.

Looking back, I should have gps the old engine. What’s a good app for gps. I’m gonna do it this time with the new engine.

Beats me, man. I'm a Luddite except for this site and the interwebz in general. I use a 'puter and despise apps. :ack2:

Just about any gps tracker will do. Even Google maps has a speed posted when in navigation mode.
There's even some racing apps that will track your lap time based off a line you create for a start finish line.

It doesn't really matter, I was just curious about your machine. Just because it's a bigger engine doesn't mean it will be faster top-end wise; it's about the gearing and the engine RPM in the end.

I’m using gps app Speedometer. Top speed on the new engine is 20mph. Speed feels about the same as the old smaller engine but the drift radius is definitely wider. Most likely due to more power from the new engine. Drift has more force also. I’m loving it!
