I have this engine with an electric start. Do these engines have a charging coil? I need to figure out the wiring.

Only way to know for sure is to take off the flywheel. Then again you might assume it’s all original.
Take the entire serial number and look it up on partstree or something and look at an exploded parts drawing?

Are there any modern examples of small engines equipped with electric start that do not have a charging system? That doesnt make sense to me. Ive just never seen something that you have to charge manually like that.

The only thing I can think of is my snow blower that you can plug into the wall to start.

EDIT: I know we do this in our hobby here but Im talking about from factory equipment.

You’re right, it *should* have a charging system if it has an electric starter.

I think a snowblower engine may have been what I was thinking of, but didn’t articulate it 🥱 I have zero experience with snowblowers but the engines get pressed into kart and minibike service very often. The AC plug-in starting is a thing of beauty if you think about it.

There’s a lot of *things were not what they seemed* on this forum so if it’s a used engine with an electric starter it could quite possibly no longer have its original charging style flywheel installed. I‘m so used to the ‘crazy’ on this forum.

I'm not showing any real results for that engine serial and it doesn't look right. The actual serial number is stamped into the valve cover for the Intek engines. Here's an example of one for a 206cc Intek Pro: 128332 0116 E1 040316 FD

12 - Cubic inch displacement
8 - Basic design series
3 - Horizontal shaft
3 - Ball Bearing Flange Mounting, Splash Lube
2 - Rewind starter

0116 - The type number identifies the engine mechanical parts, color of paint, decals, governed speed and Original Equipment Manufacturer.

E1 - ?

040316 - Date of manufacture 2004, March 16

FD - ?

Here's the rundown for Briggs and Stratton starter types by code (6th digit):

0 - Without Starter

1 - Rope Starter

2 - Rewind Starter

3 - Electric Starter Only 110V Gear Drive

4 - Electric Starter/110V Gear Drive with Alternator

5 - Electric Starter Only 12V Gear Drive

6 - Alternator Only

7 - Electric Starter 12V Gear Drive with Alternator

8 - Vertical Pull Starter or Side Pull Starter

9 - Mechanical Starter

A - Electric Starter/12V Gear Drive with Alternator & Inverter

So it appears I have an electric start only?

It does not appear to me. I mean it's a simple matter to determine whether it has a rewind starter on it or not. Can you post some pics of what you have?

It's usually the larger displacement engines that have electric start only and no recoil/rewind starter so this sounds rather unusual. Anything is possible though; anything the manufacturer wanted for its equipment they got, from B&S.

I have an electric start only?

I misunderstood. Electric Starter Only 12V Gear Drive, no alternator. But has a rewind pull starter.
It's a 6.5HP too, didn't know that. At least you have a ball bearing crankcase:

3 - Ball Bearing Flange Mounting Splash Lube

And probably an iron cylinder liner. Thanks for the pics.

I'd add an alternator, but that's pricey.

We need to “petition” our lower-cost leader Rotaderp to create a 212cc model with a lighting coil (alternator). Maybe a full electric start model too, or one with a lighting coil and a toothed flywheel with the facility to take an add-on electric starter. I think there’s a genuine need….

...because there’s tons of lighted minibikes that have a charging coil (Coleman, Axis, Baja, Massimo, etc) and when the little rascal kills the factory engine in the first two weeks of use (I'm being generous here 😁), they put on a Rotaderp but there’s no more lights.
