All this work for next to nothing.

So here I am, trying to get my minibike going. I've ordered a new sprocket for it, running 12/55. I know, it's pretty high. Anywhoo, I've got the engine all rebuilt, gov pulled out, etc. I'm going on to put on the torque converter. (They were running a clutch before) I have it all bolted on.

I go to stick the bolt inside the shaft. Turns out whoever had this bike and engine before me cut the shaft short and welded the bolt hole closed. I just about lost it. So many hours spent working on all this crap :/

Needless to say I'm going to take a short break and maybe rip into one of the other engines I have and start over.

I never done it but dopee ding what they used to weld the hole shut you can drill and tap the hole and run the same bolt or buy a new one to run

What I don't understand is..

when you pulled the governor out.. you must have had the crankshaft in view,
you likely even touched it...
heck, in order to remove the crankcase cover you had to remove the clutch...
how come you haven't noticed that "mod" earlier?

Yeah, I'm not sure how I missed it too. The clutch just used two little set screws to begin with, so I never even bothered to look at the end of the shaft. Lessons learned.
