Betcha that got your attention! Anytime I open up a CRT first thing i do is get out my ghetto ground tool and ground the HV line.

I was playing with the high voltage on purpose, monitor was plugged in and powered on. There was a tear in the insulator material of the wire and on the rubber of the plier I was using to hold it with so an arc jumped from the output, into the plier, and onto my hand.

Yes oscar, if you're gonna work on a crt, you're supposed to short out the HV anode to ground on the unit somewhere to release any charge left in the tube.

Suction cup, stick a screwdriver with rounded off edges in the (so you dont scratch anything) with an alligator clip attached to the driver and the frame. Poke and prod at the connection (pop will probably be heard) and leave it in there.
