So my dad has said that he will assist me in buying a first car. I'm 18, a college student, and need a car the will get me to school and to work.
I'm looking at cars below $4000 right now because my dad hadn't given me a price range and I have that much in my bank account.
On ebay and craigslist, the first thing I notice are the largest numbers of Used Pontiacs. I have been considering these the most because I have always liked the way the look, and my mom used to have one that I have fond memories of as a child. I know these aren't great reasons for getting a car- but like I said, there are so many of them on the market, this should increase my chances of finding a good deal? The issue with these is that I would prefer not to have one of the components grenade the week I buy it. I have mostly been noting late 90s-early 2000s Grand prix GTPs. If I buy a Grand Prix with 125,000 miles on it, will the transmission blow soon?
I have heard the the Buicks are some of the same cars as the Pontiacs but are built better. Is this the case?
As far as used foreign cars, there aren't nearly as much (I live in Detroit ) and they are more expensive.
Any general or specific tips would be great as I am obviously in over my head in this.
