1940s kart

I'm new to the Forum and hoping that someone might be able to help me track down the owner/builder of this kart. I was told that it originally had come from the Pacific Northwest.

looks close to a track rabbit to me..
sure it's not a factory made kart?

the track rabbit for example (very similar fiberglass body)
was made by pressweld in sebring, ohio

But there were several so called quarter or micro midgets made in a similar fashion...
(race-craft or viking-craft for example)

But you need to look at a later period.. there are no 40's karts;
50's and 60's yes.. 40's nope! (based on 40's style cars and earlier.. sure...)
but if you're looking for the time that kart was made, add a decade or two
since the "invention" of a go kart is from Aug. 1956 IIRC. (by Art Ingles in California)

I have seen this before. Not a track rabbit. Much older, perhaps by a couple of decades!!!
Could you provide a better (legible) pic of this ID plate? Appears to be a model A which was manufactured from early '30's to late '40's.
Can provide a better pic of drive-line including drive axle?
Are those semi-pneumatic tires?

Sorry its taken me so long to respond but I've been out of pocket.
A friend sent me a copy of "Modern Mechanix" from the early 40s and the main subject is how to build a "Sidewalk Runabout". This car would definitely fit the bill for being a "sidewalk runabout.

Hopefully the picture I post comes out better than the previous one.

Sorry its taken me so long to respond but I've been out of pocket.
A friend sent me a copy of "Modern Mechanix" from the early 40s and the main subject is how to build a "Sidewalk Runabout". This car would definitely fit the bill for being a "sidewalk runabout.

Hopefully the picture I post comes out better than the previous one.

and apart from that, there are some very funny "soon to be seen inventions"
like the titanic sized road-ship running on a five story building tall pneumativ wheel... sure

Question: Do the Maytag Toy Racers & the Sidewalk Runabouts qualify as go-karts or does that designation only apply to post Engles karts?
