    Predator 212 into Dirt Bike?

Yeah, the 4-stroke thing makes a lot more sense. As for that man card, I'm failing miserably! I can only get two punches on that thing the way it is, so I really need to beef it up.

Pretty much! I'm in Andover, just east of due north from you.

    Predator 212 into Dirt Bike?

Thanks for the links! I'll definitely check them out. What defines a "Thumper?" What a coincidence, I'm in the NW suburbs of Minneapolis...but I'd rather be in western Montana.

    Predator 212 into Dirt Bike?

Well said. I just looked through my old Clymer's manual and holy crap, that engine will be down to nothing by the time I can get deep enough to even inspect the kickstarter! I'm in Minnesota, and definitely not quite ready to let this machine go! Especially after seeing that great image you...

    Predator 212 into Dirt Bike?

Thanks for mentioning The Impaler. I had seen it but not looked at it too closely. I just went through the entire thread and it's quite fascinating! I'm not as young as I used to be (47 now), and I'm not sure I need to cruise around at 55+ mph on a dirt bike anymore. Maybe a Predator-powered...

    Predator 212 into Dirt Bike?

"Why worry about whether you will have the performance range of the previous dirt bike motor and transmission." Because it was fun when stock, but by no means overpowered. Taking that down significantly would take away a lot of the fun. My hope was to get this Honda running and build a...

    Predator 212 into Dirt Bike?

I might be able to use the carb and ignition from my existing engine, I suppose. Still starts at $~500 delivered, though. eBay Link Another eBay Link Amazon Link

    Predator 212 into Dirt Bike?

$250? Wow. I saw a couple 200cc Lifans on eBay and one other place and both were $400 plus about $100 shipping, and neither included ignition and....something else. The missing pieces added up to another $100.

    Predator 212 into Dirt Bike?

Okay, thanks very much for the insight. I wasn't even aware of the Lifan. Pretty cool you can buy a brand-new engine with 5-speed on the aftermarket! It's not worth it to me to spend $600 to resurrect this old dirt bike, however, so I think I'll abandon the project.

    Predator 212 into Dirt Bike?

I've built a couple off-road karts, but never a minibike. While toying with the idea, I remembered I have a complete '81 Honda XR200R (4-stroke) with a buggered engine. Would it be reasonable to consider mating a Predator 212cc engine to the motorcycle? The upsides are the bike is complete...

I'm glad you posted and confirmed all is well. Gives me confidence mine will work, too.

    Worth buying?

I've got those same adjusters, although they're not yet installed. I think the theory is there won't be enough inertia in the left side of your seat to make it move around unintentionally. I hope.

Depends on the gearing and is influenced by other factors, but with 18" tires, 6:1 gearing and a typical 3600 rpm governed engine speed, you should be able to get about 32 mph with a clutch. TCs typically underdrive on the low end and overdrive on the top end about 10% I believe, depending on...

Oh, I get it. I thought that box would replace the engine plate and be welded in. Thanks.

"Too steep" when referring to gearing means the first number in the ratio is too low. It's also called "tall" gearing or "long" gearing. Makes for potentially higher max speed, but that's if the system can actually get itself moving without frying clutches or belts. An 84/14 combo with 18"...

    Engine/TC/Jackshaft/Sprocket/Brake Mounting Critique Requested

I looked at that when I was shopping for parts, but thought the bearing mount spots were holes rather than slots. Also, I was afraid that box would limit my mounting location flexibility. I now see that the holes are indeed slots but have already bought pillow blocks and since they have slots...

    Engine/TC/Jackshaft/Sprocket/Brake Mounting Critique Requested

 Thanks. After posting I realized my engine plate didn't yet have slots for the engine mount. I won't bother until I nail down the configuration, naturally. A pity indeed. The engine is limited in how far forward it can be based on the seat position, but maybe I can live with a...

    Engine/TC/Jackshaft/Sprocket/Brake Mounting Critique Requested

Yes, but the engine mount will have similar slots to readjust the TC belt after adjusting the jackshaft for the chain (or vice-versa).
