GSXR exhaust on my GX390 Kart

Here is my new exhaust... my last setup was a little too loud and restrictive at the same time... I grabbed this muffler for $40 and it is 100% Titanium. :2guns: Yeah, its big, yeah its obnoxious looking, but I think it sounds great and it flows great too...

    School me on front wheels/bearings

Make sure that you are buying high speed bearings, and not those crap ones for hand carts... they used to sell high speed bearings at Northern Tool, but not anymore... I have a hardware store that I can buy them from locally, but the price is crazy, like $11 a piece... you can find the same...

    School me on front wheels/bearings

Are your bearing press fit to the wheel hubs or are they just finger tight? If you dont have to pound the bearings to get them out of the hub... then spacer or no spacer, all of the lateral load will be transferred to only one of the bearings... the problem will be compounded if you over...

    My kart is finally done!

The gap is just under .040"... its the stock spec NGK BPR6ES with the gap enlarged from .030"... brand new coil... maybe my exhaust is a little too restrictive... I will run it with the muffler off and see how it looks... forgot to mention... I am running like 3 month old 93 octane... maybe...

    My kart is finally done!

It did... before I added the steel plates and upgraded to grade 8 bolts, the torque from the engine pulled the entire mount against the axle... Now it is good... ---------- Post added at 08:25 PM ---------- Previous post was at 08:22 PM ---------- Agreed... I will add a rollbar...

    My kart is finally done!

I tweaked the connection between the governor and the throttle, so I get about a little over 4000rpm with the pedal, and I get a few hundred more rpm when I reach back an pin the throttle arm to mechanical stop. With the pedal, I can hit 40mph, and pinning the throttle arm gets it around 45 or...

    Chain keeps jumping and slipping

It looks savable to me... 10mm is WAY to small... depending on the weight of the rider, you might get away with 5/8" dead axles on the back. That would be the cheapest route... You will need to replace and space out the rear wheels a little bit to make room for proper, light-duty hubs... Save...

    My kart is finally done!

Thanks man! I like it too... I passed on a lot of yerf dog style frames and race frames... The yerf's look too much like a sand buggy and the newer style race frames are all side engine, and I know that makes them weight balanced with the driver, but something about the engine on the side...

    My kart is finally done!

I have been posting on here quite a bit lately. I am really bad about taking pictures mid-build... So here is my finished (probably) project. I bought the frame used for a $100, with a running Jiangdong 168 5.5hp and a bent axle... I didn't realize it at the time but everything on this kart is...

    Chain keeps jumping and slipping

OMG, I did not see it! Haha... I was so focused in on the chain alignment... it does look like 3/8"... Good call! and now that I look, the sprocket looks like it only has 2 bolts...

    Chain keeps jumping and slipping

If you align it, with the chain tight, and it ends up misaligned again than you engine is shifting... The first 2 times this happened to me I thought the chain was just stretching. It only has to shift 1/32nd of an inch to be a problem, when mine shifts enough for the chain to pop and skip it...

    Honda GC160 help...

There is a zip tie that going around the spring and the linkage, before the connection point to the governor arm... I am positive that it should not be there... It should have 2 attachment points, one is usually on the governor arm, and it is, the other is usually connects to the throttle body...

    Honda GC160 help...

I am surprised to see a GC160 on a kart... Most of us on here with Hondas or Clones, are working with GX series or copies there of... I don't have any experience with the GC series, but based on my experience with GX's... It seems that in fact it is your governor that is pinning open the...

    Gearing help

When you change the tire height, you are changing the final drive "gearing", and it has the same effect as changing the rear sprocket... So to do yourself a favor, get the tire height figured out first, so that you are only dealing with 1 variable... On top of that, you are talking about a...

    Chain keeps jumping and slipping

I have the exact same problem that I am dealing with right now. Your clutch and driven sprocket are in almost the same relative position as mine... My problem is because of the forward position of my clutch, the torque force is pulling the drive (PTO) side of the motor towards the sprocket...
