Not a bad deal (I think)

I might have to take you up on that! Any idea where I’d be able to find a front fender? No luck so far.

Not a bad deal (I think)

Thanks! I added a wood dowel for now for an extension foot peg. Without it I could get my heel on the peg and clear the carb and filter. With the peg added it’s much easier to get most of my foot on there. Once I put the HS40 back on there, I will get new foot peg grips and make it appear more...

And finished. Still need to strip and repaint the tank, but it’ll do for now. I was a little disappointed I wasn’t able to use my torque converter with this chassis and motor Combo but oh well. It will get the original motor put back on eventually, just wanted to break in my GX140 build first. :wai:

    GX140 build

That makes sense. I was worried I was going to have to do a lot more tuning with the carb. For some reason I was thinking I should be able to get around 1000. 1500 is easy and it sounded great there. Not sure how I can upload a video but I did get a video of it as well. Can’t wait to get the...

Just got it started and cam broke in today! Ended up going with a Chinese mikuni vm22 instead of the standard type carb. Runs great, revs great and sounds great! Only thing I’m curious about is what RPM do these idle at after similar mods have been done? I can get mine to around 1200-1300...

Not a bad deal (I think)

Got the front forks painted and reassembled today. I was worried about painting the tubes that slide inside the lower fork tubes but after greasing and assembling, no problems at all! Replaced both springs and cups with some from omb warehouse. Little larger diameters than the originals but...

Not a bad deal (I think)

Thanks, I figured those that had helped out with some questions would like to see some progress. You’re not wrong! It is shop class. It’s been a great project for the kids to learn with. Love having people with experience on this site help me out with some tips (like how the forks come apart)...

Not a bad deal (I think)

Here’s my progress so far. Got the motor all finished up today with my carb adapter finally showing up. Can’t wait to fire it up. Got the wheels painted and bracket for the rear disc brake welded up also. No more scrub brake. Got most of the fender painted, still need to add the red and gold...

Texan Did you have any trouble reassembling after forks were painted? Mine seem like they have good clearance now but I’m worried if I paint if that will cause binding.

Not a bad deal (I think)

I was FINALLY able to get the front forks apart. 3 days worth of pb blaster and finally with the help of a jack and ratchet strap, they separated. Had to cut a spring out because someone had tried to re weld the spring cup for some reason and that welded the spring to the cup so it wouldn’t...

    GX140 build

Ya I have found them for around 20-25 shipped, just thought it would be fun to try and cast one and wanted to see what people have done. I’m not good enough with the search function apparently yet to find anything.

Has anyone ever tried to cast their own intake manifold for a mikuni carb? Thinking about trying it for my build.

    GX140 build

The new set I ordered in described to fit a GX160 measured in at 1.995" which were identical to the ones I removed originally. There is roughly 3/16" difference between these and ones for the GX200.

Any idea how to get the fork tubes unstuck? I assume the springs fully compressed aren't just for show?

That’s it! Mine does have a chain guard but the mounting on that one where the chain gaurd would go is the same. ---------- Post added at 08:48 PM ---------- Previous post was at 08:48 PM ---------- I’ll have to snap another pic tomorrow, but the one joe just posted is it.

Not a bad deal (I think)

Picked this thing up for 50 bucks. Needs some work but is complete! Was told it runs but carb needs cleaned. Took it apart and they were right, it definitely needed cleaned. Luckily though, it is a 19mm slide carb so going to try and clean it and see what happens. Any ideas what kind it is...

Interesting thought on the marker on the valve tips to check the rocker path, never thought of that! I’ve always used other ways to mark it that aren’t as clean. Great tip! I’m not new to engine building just new to building these. Did the same when I built my 450 horse small block with roller...

Thanks for ge help guys! I just ordered another set of lifters for the gx160. Luckily they aren’t very expensive ringing in at about $8 total shipped.

    GX140 build

After doing a little more digging, seems I have ordered lifters for a gx200 accidentally instead of for the gx160. Must be a difference in parts since there are two different listings for them on the NR Racing website. Can anyone confirm if they are different sizes between lifters for the...

    GX140 build

I don’t have them set yet, I was just giving reference to let people know they are softly “tightened” to show I can’t even turn them any further if I wanted too. I believe my cam sheet said .003 for both intake and exhaust clearance, I could be wrong but that number is sticking out right now...
