Drift trike w/ 1 sleeved wheel idea... and where can I find the PVC cheap?!?

Hey HB, what is the actual diameter of the tire? (By that I mean measure it, not the size on the tire)I'd like to know if couplers will work. I'm currently paying about $17 ea shipped. Mine are almost wide enough to split in half and use. I don't recommend using one sleeve, you'll be shocked...

Motor Controller Burning on Full Throttle

Um, why has no one discussed gear ratio? A motor like that is basically a dead short @ 0rpm. If it's not spinning fast enough, there's no counter emf to keep the current down. So it's probably drawing too much current.

Finally got it finished up. I managed to crack the frame where the throttle cable goes in. I kinda' suspected it would be a problem, sometimes I should trust my instincts. Then as soon as it hit the street, I busted a wheel. Get a good look, as this will be the best it'll ever look...

    DeadRift-Drift Trike project

For some reason chancer I missed this, 7.3 to 1. I'm on holiday next week, so I'll be breakin' out the rattle cans. I still have to figure out some kind of chain cover as it's slingin' oil everywhere!

What the RAKE is going on?

To decrease trail ya bend some more curve in the forks. Bad news is the BMX forks most guys use wouldn't bend. Weld a bigger plate to the dropouts and move the dropout slot away from the fork tubes. You may even want to just bolt a plate to the forks original dropouts and experiment with the...

    Gear ratios?

Unless it's an overdrive, I'll take a wild stab and say 1 to 1. It would be handy to know the ratio of all the gears, it's just less important. Using my 3 to 1 ratio let's say first is 3.3 to 1. That gives me a darn near 10 to 1 first. Just about anything will move with that, and be gentle on...

    Gear ratios?

You'd be better off to calculate the final ratio for top speed. The one on this site works fine. A 3 to 1 @ 7000rpm w/a 12" tire yields 83mph. YMPHMV. A single speed ratio is a compromise between top speed and being able to start moving. A transmission eliminates the need for that compromise.

Well, I was try to get away from the flyaway wheels I see in so many videos. Plus I was being cheap, I had all that stuff lying around. I'm working on a new design, but I am going to stay away from the normal sleeve over tire. Now if I had access to a CNC mold cutter and an injection molding...

    DeadRift-Drift Trike project

Quick update, managed to get it into an abandoned theater parking lot for a half hour last Sat. While I can't keep up with the kids death rocket it still is a lot of fun, and we did manage to get some attention of the condo residents. At least it held up for the entire time, so at least it's...

What the RAKE is going on?

Trail is a lot more important than head tube angle. That being said I like the steep rake (just measured mine, it's 60deg!). Angling the head tube keeps the bars closer to you when you're really deep in the slide. Use as little trail as possible, as the live axle seems to mess with the low speed...

Another gear ratio with jackshaft question

Ok, knowing that bit of info, I'd go w/a 7.5r by using a 12t into 24t and keep the 16t to 60t. When you only have one gear ratio you had better get it as right as possible. And that goes for just about anything, I always set my single speed bicycles for my particular build and fitness. I'm...

HaHa! glad you decided the join the fun.:welcome2: Ok, I got the jackshaft roughed out, it should work. I was concerned about mounting the whole thing off the motor, but that's how a torque convertor does it. I'll clean it up and trim off the unnecessary stuff tomorrow.

Another gear ratio with jackshaft question

I think you'll find you'll be going over 25mph with that ratio and no governor. I also see your area is board flat, so you don't need stump pulling power. With both jackshaft sprockets 16t you're just transferring power from one side to the other, that just seems like a waste. I'd go 12t to 20t...

Alright, I'm just about there. So, for one last time, I ran the 5.5 ratio with the speedo and got this. Just couldn't eek out that last .2 mph. Glamor shots Goodbye simple driveline, I'll miss u. I call this the "4th wheel". Note the concrete rub marks on the chain. It would have...

    DeadRift-Drift Trike project

Current setup is 11t clutch into 60t sprocket, with 9.3 inch wheels. The 72t will only be temporary as there will be no ground clearance as well. I went sifting thru my junk last nite and found enough stuff to build a jackshaft that will get me to a 7.3 ratio. And since the axle sprocket is a...

    DeadRift-Drift Trike project

Ok, so I finally got it out today. Well I can now see why the big motor is so popular. I can't spin the wheels off the line and it wouln't sustain a wheel spin thru a 360. But that saves wheel wear and as it turns out I have absolutely no business doing 360s. The Gs are bit high on the...

    DeadRift-Drift Trike project

Me too. Like I've said, I've ridden one w/a 179 cc, and it has way too much power. If it is seriously underpowered, that motor will makes its way over to a chopper I've got sittin' around. Makes me wish they had a 100-125cc Predator. Total weight of the whole machine is around 80 lbs (w.a.g.)...

Starting to look like the finish line is near. Put it together enough to check out the front end geometry. Very old school relaxed geometry. Got it down to 2 inches of trail.
