    I just bought a kart with no motor. the previous owner gave me a belt clutch and a driven. The problem is that the drive has been drilled and bolted together so that it wont open and close. I am wondering if it is damaged because of all the holes. Im not sure I understand how a driven works...

    It depends on the welding supply. Some of them dont like to deal with non Leased bottles. Call your local supply and let them know you own a bottle, they will tell you weather they fill them or not. Look on craigslist for the bottles, sometimes you can find a good deal, just make sure the date...

    I cant really machine down the existing shaft because its only 1 1/4" long. I'm gonna build the adapter by taking a part that I already have that fits the shaft and threading in a 3/4" keyed shaft into it. I was going to tig weld it on but I would have to start with bigger material then machine...

    I work in a fabrication shop and I would recommend a mig. It is a very versatile welding process, with a modest learning curve. I urge you not to weld on a car chassis if you have never welded before. Welding is a skill that comes from a lot of practice. Have fun and be safe...
