video of computer showing tach I had time to take a video of the computer with the engine running and revved up a bit to show the tach working. Sorry about the poor quality - I'll see if I can figure out how to get more clarity next time. http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=OWaj6jj2qGg

computer It has been some time since I promised to post pics about my kart's computer. It is an Arduino clone based computer with inputs from the CVT and the axle using Hall effect sensors and magnets. This allows ability to compute and display tachometer and speed info. Also odometer and...

    Beginner Kart...First Build

"SDCoston, how did you mount your kill switch?" I welded a piece of 1-1/4" x 12g steel across between the steering column uprights about 3" below the column. Then drilled a hole in it and just used a simple flip switch from Radio Shack. Wired it in series with the on/off switch on the Honda...

I bought a small "ATV" lithium-ferrous battery - weighs nothing. Has a 9Ah capacity. I have a hobby charger I can trickle charge it about every 2 hours of headlight usage, which will be rare. Everything else pulls 10's of milliamps. My engine - a Honda GX390 - doesn't have a coil and it is...

Go-kart computer I've almost finished building and installing our Go-kart's computer. Pics and a video sometime in the next few days. It will measure distance, speed, keep an odometer reading. It has a well-functioning tachometer. I've added headlights and rear LED lights with turn blinker's...

Good Job! I have been lurking on the forum for a bit ... really following your build and one other right now. My experience with the first test ride of our Tarantula variant was not too different from your yours, though some of the stuff I needed to fix was discovered when I just had a rolling...

Ha Ha! That's what I did to tighten up my engine at the very last! I know it's not "clean," but it worked great for me.

"If it ain't broke, don't fix it." True enough. But this forum and group is all about not just getting a go kart thrown together but also about making something that works well. I'm just discussing issues with this particular design. Built the way the Spidercarts plans indicate, the...

I bought a spring. Just haven't installed it yet. I'm still not entirely convinced I like my pedals the way they are. I may build some upper rails up front and suspend pedals so they hang down and figure out linkages so they aren't in the way of the feet.

I've made tons of Arduino projects. Shouldn't be an issue. When i'm done, I'll publish links here.

OK, after I got it all set up - it looks as if the bike computer tachometer doesn't work at rpms above 1600. Up there, the reading "jostles" all around between 1300 and 1600. Either the magnetic reed switch can't handle being triggered 3500 times a minute or the bike computer processor can't...

Yeah, funny enough... I use a smart phone app on my bike. But i'm going to use a bike computer on my kart. The smart phone GPS can be configured to "update" the GPS signal up to 5 times a second. But in my experience, most apps can't update the current speed more than once every 2 secs or so...

I had this old bike computer lying around, and it has the ability to measure speed as well as pedaling cadence. I spent some time tonight mounting the cadence sensor magnets to the back side of the inner plate of my TC2 CVT driver wheel and gluing the reed switch cadence sensor to the adjacent...

JCB003- Here's how I did it. I used steel rod and I bent it to fit into the pedal arm holes. Then I welded the master cylinder mount back closer to the seat on the inner part of the frame. Fabroman says i shouldn't have it hanging below the bottom of the frame so, if you can, you should weld...

    Spidercarts GrandDaddy Build by extreme0016

r97 - Thanks for the link. I like their 2-seater. It has full 4-wheel suspension. The 1-seater plans they have ("Shredder") seem limited because it has no front wheel suspension, yet they call it an off-road go-kart. I'll look at the 2-seater plans and decide which way to go ... i've seen...

    Spidercarts GrandDaddy Build by extreme0016

Granddaddy Does anyone know of or seen or heard of a successful Grandaddy build? If so ... is there a thread I can read or a builder to contact? I'd just nearly finished a "Tarantula" design (from Spidercarts plans - modified slightly) and am already thinking about my next build which is...

So you are two years older than my oldest son. I wonder if, in two years' time he'll have as good a grasp on this stuff as you do if we keep building karts. He wants to build an Arachnid next .... but I'm not so sure.
