Advice on a road legal 3-wheeler

Yeah, I actually just signed up for a week long welding class towards the end of summer, so I will learn then.

Advice on a road legal 3-wheeler

I'm finding quotes from welders right now. I do want to learn to weld eventually but time is hard to find. I'll just do this when I'm in college, make it run on garbage or something and call it an independant study.

OK, Update-ish thing... I discovered the vortex (link below)...What I like is it uses a wooden chasis, and I am MUCH better with wood then with metal. http://www.vortexplans.com/ Now the vortex itself...Well, it looks a little complex. As I mentioned earlier, I'm probably best with strapping...

Advice on a road legal 3-wheeler

Same way here in MA. If I were in cali I'd just get a motorcycle- less rain, less snow, less general crap. But there is no way I'm riding out to western MA in a blizzard. Unless there is some kit I can get that could turn a motorcycle into a snowmobile...like replace the back wheel with a...

Advice on a road legal 3-wheeler

Thanks. I actually just found something for sale on ebay that was a bike with what looked like a kart frame welded to the front. looked pretty doable. Get a used kart with a shot engine, remove the front wheel of a motorcycle and weld it to the back of the kart, and reinforce it with some extra...

Advice on a road legal 3-wheeler

Thanks. It's probably obvious, but I'm definetelly in the more brain-stormy phase right now. An interesting thing popped up, and thats that my father, who normally is wary of strange projects, seamed enthusiastic about the idea of building a Lotus 7 (Or really a Locost). I then found a book...

Advice on a road legal 3-wheeler

Thanks for all the info! I am planning on throwing some more specific plans out there in a few days. Carbon, The general idea for a lotus 7 type thing with 3 wheels and roll bars I can put a canvas over in the rain is definetelly badass. Now one problem I have had is finding motorcycle...

Advice on a road legal 3-wheeler

Good point. In the fall I'm going to take the rider training course. It's new england, and so it should go into some of the crappy weather, and I'll see how well I can hold up. This is getting more to motorcycling questions, but what is there that can make long rides more comphy? I know there...

Advice on a road legal 3-wheeler

Hmmm...problem is then I'm in a metro, yugo, festiva, something car like and heavy, and at that point I might was well get a car. What about taking a larger touring scooter and weling an axel in front along with the steering system off a go kart?

Advice on a road legal 3-wheeler

I was also thinking that. Reason I might want a 3 wheeler is more luggage room, easier controllability, larger size on the road (so people see me), and a little protection from the elements, and a slightly cushier ride. I've never actually ridden on a motorcycle? How much comphier is the...

Advice on a road legal 3-wheeler

Thats you risto! I'm going to ask him about it. I'm going to post a crude diagram of my idea in a second, I just have to do it up in paint and upload it.

Simply because if it has 4, then I'd have to register it as a car. That means all sorts of idiotic requirements on safety, noise, emissions, ect... 3 wheels means it's registered as a motorcyle, which means turn signals, breaks, and the ability to go over 45mph.

Advice on a road legal 3-wheeler

OK. Hi, I'm new to these boards, and what I'm asking about isn't exactly a go-kart, but I figure Go-karts would be the closest thing to what I hope to build. Basically I got a license suspension for speeding, and my girlfriend is going off to college in the fall. That happens to be about when...
