    knobbies to slicks

I thought the measurements seemed odd too so I double checked them before my first post. I guess that since the holes are fairly close to the outer rim and they're offset they can be pretty close to the same measurement. Anyway, that's what they appear to be and I'm sorry but I don't know the...

    knobbies to slicks

Thank you so much! The "A" measurement (bolt-to-bolt) is 3 1/16" and the "B" measurement (center hole diameter) is 3 1/8". Does that sound right?

OK, so if live axle means having a differential, then it's not a live axle. Both tires are locked into the same axle and do not turn independently of one another.

    knobbies to slicks

Thanks for the quick response. I have attached some pictures here, but there are more in an earlier thread started by me (digitalsdc) over a year ago. The gear ratio is 6:1 (60 front, 10 rear). The engine and clutch are functioning fine - we just want to put some street-worthy tires on it so...

Oh, I forgot to mention that the axle has a 5/8" bolt.

    knobbies to slicks

OK, I'm definitely a noob by most definitions. Here is my question: what do I need to do to trade out the knobby 16" tires (7" rims) on my son's kart to slicks that he can ride on the street with? My preference would be to find an affordable wheel/tire combination that I could readily swap...

Another new guy with possible centrifugal clutch issues

Thank you again for your responses. Last night I ordered a new Max-Torque 10T clutch, a new #40 chain, and a 60T sprocket. I also re-measured my rear tires and they're 15", not 16". Hopefully this will be a good combination to get us up and running and I can fine-tune the gearing with...

Another new guy with possible centrifugal clutch issues

Ok, I loosened the chain as prescribed and the result is the same. The engine is now running and accelerating strong so I've pretty much determined I need to replace the clutch, sprocket and potentially chain (to get a better ratio). With that said, I'm wondering if a CVT really is the best...

Another new guy with possible centrifugal clutch issues

I just had another thought regarding the clutch. I read somewhere that if a chain is too tight it could have a similar effect - the kart moving when idling. The chain really is tight, but I'm not sure how that would cause it. Any thoughts there?

Reverse order then... Clutch: the outer drum does spin freely while engine is not running, but only occasionally while it is. I haven't taken it apart, but I'm thinking maybe the spring is shot or something? Accelerator: thanks for the suggestion. I'll play with that one a bit. Gearing...

Another new guy with possible centrifugal clutch issues

OK. Thanks to everyone for all the responses. I'm sorry it's taken me so long to get back with some details. Here is what I've done so far: 1. I took apart and cleaned the carburetor and other accessible parts 2. I removed and cleaned the fuel filter in the gas tank 3. I cleaned the air...

Another new guy with possible centrifugal clutch issues

Hi All, I just purchased a used (about 3 years old) Smart Kart with a 6.5hp clone engine. This was formy son's 12th birthday. I believe it has a centrifugal clutch with chain drive. I could post some pictures later if that would help. I've already cleaned the carburetor and the engine seems...
