    How did I do this to my clutch???

    I've destroyed my clutch. The first attached picture shows the bushing ripped up. In the second picture (I apologize for the focus) you can see that it appears the that teeth have been slightly rounded. Is this a sign that my chain was too tight? It was a bit loose originally, causing the chain...

    How to secure break & sprocket to axle?

    I have a kart that locks the break and sprocket to the axle using small rectangular "keys". But there is nothing to secure them in place and they can move on their "track" on the axle. If they slide out I lose my engine or my breaks. I saw someone mention using locktite to basically glue them...

    Woohoo! Kart is done!

    First - thanks to everyone here who helped me get through this build. I had no idea what I was doing when I started this thing and I would not have made it this far without the help I found here. Thanks! Runs well. My kids (and their friends) love it. One more question as long as I'm here: I...

    Newbie Engine Behavior Question

    I fear this is a really dumb question but I'm going to ask it anyway: When I start my engine and it's idling, should I expect the drive shaft to be spinning? I was thinking that in "idle" the kart would not move but if I start it without any load (i.e. chain not attached) it's spinning pretty...

    Ugh - Another setback

    Alright, I've hit another minor setback in the construction of my first kart. I was attempting to attach the chain guard to the engine when I somehow managed to shear the bolt head off. So now the remainder of the bolt is embedded in the engine and I'm left with no way to attach the chain guard...

    Chain Tool?

    Guys, Apparently I need a chain tool of some sort that will allow me to break and re-connect my #35 chain for the kart I'm building. Any recommendations on the best product/provider of something like this? I've looked at local home improvement type stores as well as some of the online places...

    Engine & Clutch --> MPH

    I purchased this kart kit: http://www.gokartnminibikeparts.com/gokartassembled.jpg I'm at the point now where I need to select and engine and clutch. I'd ideally like this kart to top out around 18 mph. Using the speed calculator (http://www.diygokarts.com/speed-calculator.html) it seems like...

    Laugh/Cry as I try to build my first kart

    Alright guys, I've posted a couple messages in here looking for helping in building a kart with my son. Based on the good feedback I've purchased this kit: http://www.gokartnminibikeparts.com/go_kart_&_minibike_kits.htm. Now, I'll probably be posting here as we progress and have questions. Feel...

    Best kits available for a kids go-kart?

    All, I need help. I'm new to the forum and to even the idea of building a go-kart. My son (age 9) wants to build a go-kart and I've been looking all over the web for kits. I'm certain that welding is out of my league (at least for now), so I'd like to find a kit that includes the frame...
