70 Year Old Newbie

Greetings. I'm 70 years old and have ADHD so I will most likely start introducing myself and then quickly move onto another subject. In fact, I think I already did - something about the Manco mowers - I'm not really sure. One thing I do know - I saw way too much as a medic so I have to keep my mind busy.
I am a retired Firefighter/Paramedic (30+ years). I have a burning (*no pun intended) desire to build a go kart, not the traditional one since I want to use a Red Flyer wagon I found on the side of the road for the seat. Not sure how I will mold it into the build but I'll give it a try.

I have (had) welders and cutters and tools, many that one would be proud of - UNTIL our last hurricane (Milton). Two of the largest Florida Oaks crushed our 30x30 machine shop my son and I built. They literally flattened it. Since then, my son moved away for a job and I'm left with a 30x30 slab of concrete.
But hey, I'm not going to let that stop me.

Sounds like the next project is to build on that slab another workshop.... and chainsaw the remaining trees that can take out the shop a second time.

Already done my friend. I've been in Florida my entire life but this last hurricane topped all of those I have ridden out. Never seen so many (huge) trees uprooted, beach sand washed ashore and flooded properties. We live about 10 miles from the Gulf and we ended up getting tons of beach sand trucked into parks and boat ramp areas all around us as they ran out of places to put it. I thought it should have gone back where it came from but hey, I'm only a fireman. LOL.

That sir has been done but they are still fun to see, those and the grocery cart karts seem to be a recurring theme. Oh yeah, and the cooler karts and the bar stool carts.

Nah, I honestly don't. I've had to bring everything back to my house in the garage. It's tight but we can't afford to build another shop. But that's ok too. I think what matters most is that we (my son and I) need to be thankful we have tools and the ability to use them.
