Hello I am Will from NJ.
I have grown up working and building cars; however, this will be my first time starting a build thread.
I am building 2 go karts for my sons. They both show pretty good driving skills since I hopped up their power wheels.
After much deliberation I decided to go with 1 inch square tubing aluminum so I can play with my tig welder and develop my aluminum welding skills. While I would love to have a tubing bender and do it out of round, I don't really want to spend the money on a tubing bender and I do not have the place to mount it.
I am also making them both electric as both are sensitive to the sound of the lawn mower (3 and 5 year old). I have an 800 watt 36v motor that I am planning to run off of dewalt 20v drill batteries. I am not 100% sure that will work the way I want it to; however, I got a deal on the batteries and I want to give it a try.
Right now I have 2 piece frames cut and tach welded. since they are going to be mostly off road karts the front is going to have A arm suspension while the rear is a swing arm. If anyone has recommendation for rear shocks for swing arm suspension for young kids I would love to hear it. Right now I have a shock/spring from the rear of a motor cycle.
For those looking for them, I will have photos in the the next few days to show the progress I have right now.
