Lawn Boy motor on a kart threads here

Actually, nothing broken, just the butterfly screw worked loose, all back together now. Fun getting it back in down that LONG throat, involved a sharpened chopstick and a pair of hemostats to get it back together. But the shaft is still worn, and most likely this is causing havoc with the...

    my home made steam engine

Amazing bit of work. I assume you are running it off of compressed air for now? I found that steam models behave differently with air than steam. I have one 16mm scale UK model locomotive that runs ok on air, but with steam (and a bunch of that smelly steam oil in its lubricator) runs like a...

True, but honestly, it is STUPID stuff. Butterfly comes off of the throttle (ran wide open) but somehow it and the screw were still in the intake. Fixed that today (sort of, throttle shaft is SHOT, almost hour glass shaped) and then when starting it, I found the entire starting rope in my...

Shame. Could have been a fast rever if a bit slow at top end. Boy I hate the 5hp Briggs on my kart, every time you fix one bit, another breaks......

Interesting. I have two D mowers that both run (my 19" 1983, last year of the D did not when I got it funny story) and have never been apart and a Utility motor like yours that needs starter work and a deck (or a Kart?). So I have never had to take one apart to notice the muffler aspect. What...

Anyone ever try a D series motor? They are sweet little motors, if a little low in the HP department.

Thanks for the replies. This does make sense. The long block is an F. Also your mention of cutting off the end answered my next question.

OK I dug through the longblock stack. The problem I see with this is the lack of a key for the shaft for the clutch mounting. How does one get around that?

Thanks, I will then dig through all my long blocks and build something. The shaft diamter was JUST under 1", but that may have been me trying to use the calipers outside in the ice and 28 dg weather!

....anyhow back to the topic at hand. I have a mower I think would be best to use for this, a 7231 push mower. It has a blade clutch and brake assembly (yuck) and needs a muffler. It runs great and has good compression, just loud with no muffler. I also chose this as looking at the drawing...

How many people can claim that their day to day mowers date from 1975 and 1979 respectively? What is really funny is to zip past the line at a mower repair shop near me, the only mowers out front WITHOUT the sissy bar are generally Lawn Boys with the occasional ancient Snapper.

My father in law threw away a John Deere that was a Lawn Boy in drag...... If you cannot say anything nice about someone.... I have thrown away a few Briggs. The only one I should not have was a big 8 horse cast iron hog that a neighbor gave me years ago as a kid. Got it in parts, went to...

Of course, I could do this with my old Maytag...71 year old idea would still work I guess? http://blog.modernmechanix.com/2006/11/27/this-sidewalk-runabout-is-easy-to-build/?Qwd=./ModernMechanix/5-1938/sidewalk_runabout&Qif=sidewalk_runabout_2.jpg&Qiv=thumbs&Qis=XL#qdig At a local steam...

Russ- Yes, I saw your vids, great work and fast fast fast! But, that is when I realized I was not the inventor of this idea, but I am glad it is do-able. I have been a two stroke fan for eons, and my collection shows, going back to a one lunger Maytag I restored many years ago... Thank you...

Thanks for the replies. Yes, I gathered that with the Tillotson carb as there is no float. Has anyone tried re-mounting the float style, or is it jsut simply not worth it? For whatever reason today, the butterfly on my 5hp Briggs came off, so now the Kart has stop and FULL GO as its two...
