Yes, the timing was right for the contest for us.
You know it turned out good when the "little inspector" giggles loud enough to hear it over the engine noise!

Before and After
Here's the before and after pictures.
We took it for a spin and the little inspector liked it and had lots of fun riding.
This contest was a good motivator to get this project done.
Last minute changes
Ok, so I bought a torque converter and finally got it installed. I re-connected the gas pedal to the throttle and I think everything is working.
Of course, nothing can be easy on this project. I had to drill and tap a hole in the end of the engine shaft. That was not as...
The problem with the Hydrostat Drive
Well, I gave it a shot. I tried the best I could to get the hydrostat drive to work for my go-kart. It would move it if I was on flat concrete, but it just didn't have much output torque. It would not go at all in the grass.
I also had problems keeping...
It RUNS
Woo hoo! It runs!:wai:
That little bitty hole in the carb must have been the reason the carb kept leaking. Amazing how such a small hole can make that much difference.
I put the carb back on and put on a new fuel line, fuel shut off valve and fuel filter. When I added gas and...
Atmospheric vent hole
Ok, after much Googling, I found a little vent hole I did not see earlier. I found it after wire brushing even more on the body of the carb. I used a little wire and cleaned it out.
I set up a little test stand to check the float. I put gas in the funnel and let it run...
Shift lever and muffler
Got the shift lever installed with linkage to hydrostat tranny. I don't have any detent positions, so you just have to feel for the center neutral position.
Also mounted a big muffler off the donor Deere. It's slightly quieter.
Going Nutty!!
That carb still leaks. I think I don't like Tecumseh carbs. I haven't had many problems with briggs carbs. I've rebuilt the carb from my Scout and my truck without any problems, but this one is not cooperating.
I'm wondering if the float is sticking. It seems to leak gas out...
Carb Rebuild
Well, I finally got the carb kit and spent part of Saturday rebuilding it. The carb itself is in good shape and some of the parts definitely needed replacing. It still leaked when I put it on, but I messed around with it a bit and it doesn't leak now. I tried running it a bit...
Drivetrain
A few pics of the drivetrain. I don't have a good way to cut slots to adjust the motor, so I got a belt that was close and used a few washers to adjust the motor. I ended up with the chain and belt just right. I know they'll both stretch over time, but for now it will work.
I'm...
