    FL250 Odyysey (Bighead Help)

Thanks for the reply Bighead:welcome2: Love your Odyssey rebuilds. Badot has been a huge help to me but feel free to chime in. Rebuilt carb with all OEM parts and boy what a difference:thumbsup: The soaked spark plug is gone. I redid the hose test and it still drops an inch in a half an hour...

Wow Professor Badot, Something tells me I should've spent more time studying and less time shooting spitballs:lolgoku: Got some more parts coming. Worse case scenario I'll just cement the carb inlet shut - that'll stop the leak:).

    FL250 Odyysey (Bighead Help)

I just invented a new test to run. I hooked a gauge to check fuel pressure to carb. I expected 5 lbs or more but with check Tee letting out pressure it stayed around 1 1/2 to 2 tops, between 1500 to 2500 rpm. So the new Tee probably won't make a difference. The ultra copper permatex around the...

Yes, Poboy is correct. The gas can escape past the needle or go through the holes up past outer seat. I rebuilt the 1977 carb last night. Did a pressure test to 4 psi and it lost a 1/4 psi in about 8 minutes. It is now hooked up to the gas line test and slowly dropping like the other. The...

Still At It:ack2: Replaced float seat, o-ring and valve. Pressure tested carb inlet hose to 4 psi. It still had a slow leak - took 14 minutes to leak down to 3 psi. Removed cleaned with Q tips and metal polish. Retested with gas line hooked up to fuel inlet. After 30 minutes it went down 2...

    Honda od fl250

Hey Birdfanatic, Just rebuilt gear box and used amsoil motorcycle WD40. Used to run everything in those gearboxes, tough as nails. And the fact that the carb slide will work 180 degrees is crazy. Your frame looks like a later model 250 to me. Marty.

Thanks Badot, The new carb kit should be in this weekend. It does have a seat so both will be removed and replaced. I will rehook up the clear test line to check for leaks. I gots my fingers crossed. :wai: I'll let you know how it goes. Thanks a bunch.

Oh, one more thing while I'm thinking about it. When I replace the float valve I'd like to test it. My idea was if anyone knows the average psi a vacuum operated fuel pump puts out, I could hook up a pressure gauge to see if the needle holds pressure before installing. Any ideas, test I should...

Badot, I snuck over before work to run your test. The hose was 9 ft so approximately 3 psi. I ran the test with carb still on odyssey. Placed cardboard and wiped everything down to locate any leaks. Yes, you were correct, after marking the level it very slowly began to drop. At first I thought...

I've adjusted the float to specs but I'll check just to be sure Birdfanatic. This is a 1983 FL250 Odyssey. I've ordered a new Tee check valve although I suspect Badot is right about fuel pressure not causing a leak at the needle. I also have a 1977 odyssey and that Tee check valve does the same...

    FL250 Odyysey (Bighead Help)

Great ideas Badot and Birdfanatic. Badot when you say run a clear hose 3 ft up, pour gas and mark the level. Just to make sure, this test is for allowing any leaks to appear. Also Birdfanatic makes a good point, the overflow hose is probrably the lowest point, so fuel may be dripping from a...

    FL250 Odyysey (Bighead Help)

Badot, Yes I seem to be having two problems fuel dripping out of carb overflow at idle. The odyysey carb is pressurized by fuel pump then to a tee check valve which allows fuel to carb until float needle shuts then excess gas pushes open tee and flows back to gas tank. I've cleaned and replaced...

Good rich to lean explanation Birdfanatic and I agree I'm getting plenty of oil - better than being lean on the 2 stroke. I guess if my spark is strong enough to run but not strong enough to completely burn the fuel/oil mix this would result in a wet spark plug (rich condition). I've rebuilt...

    FL250 Odyysey (Bighead Help)

Thanks for the response guys. Birdfanatic, correct me if I'm wrong. But isn't 45 to 1 (45 gas to 1 of oil) making (20 of gas to 1 of oil) much richer? I guess when I said rich I meant both gas and oil - wet plug. Last time I pulled the DG muffler off and poured unburnt oil out of exhaust pipe...
