just taking a guess but check the pickup. it sounds like the pickup cant keep up with the flywheel and produce spark at higher rpms

i have already mounted the dirt bike carb on the 5.5 and it runs and idles like it belongs there

i was thinking of doing exactly what mckutzy said and bolt a plate and gasket over the open engine hole and making sure the oil is still flowing good in the trans. If i welded a sprocket on the flywheel and a sprocket on the engine the engine would turn the trans the same way the original yamaha...

i had an old golf kart lined up for parts but the guy scrapped it before i picked it up

it would be easier to buy to engine and trans together but i figured since i already have an engine an a transmission i could make something work. i plan on removing as much of the engine as possible from the yamaha. i could even possibly use the power from the yamaha magneto and have electric start

anybody ever done this or have any thoughts and advice? i have a 5.5 that runs and a yamaha 125 with bad piston. i was thinking about building a kart with 5.5 output shaft mated too dirt bike flywheel.
