Comet 30 - to save or not to save?

LOL I was waiting for someone to suggest to trash it (and give them my address and my trash pickup day)! I'll definitely hit it with the wheel and see how it goes. After I get it running, it will be on to the GC as well. I don't know that I'll use it, but I don't think it would hurt to have...

Comet 30 - to save or not to save?

I'm definitely willing to put in the time on it! Looking at what I have vs the diagrams it appears to all be there, but the springs in the shoe driver assembly are all rusted out and it real sad shape.. I may end up needing to replace them, but like you suggested I'm going to take the wire wheel...

Comet 30 - to save or not to save?

I don't, but my neighbor does... He bought it 2 years ago and it's still in the box, and he's leaving for a 6mo stint in rehab in the morning, so I bet I can borrow it.. I'll give that a shot. I was thinking it's worth trying something like that but wasn't sure it was worth it. I have all the...

Comet 30 - to save or not to save?

BTW what I'm probably going to do in the meantime is just slap the clutch on the motor and go ride... If the Comet can be saved, I would definitely prefer that in the long run!

Comet 30 - to save or not to save?

I picked up a Yerf Dog today (think it's a 3202 sans rollcage). It's in so-so shape. There's a little bit of rust on the floorpan but it's solid otherwise and just needs to get put back together. The owner gave me a Honda GC160, a couple of clutches, a new band brake, and what I thought was...

    Band to bisc brake conversion?

Hey, that reminds me - I have the remnants of a decent sized (17HP I think) mower out in the woods - left there by the prior owners when we bought the house! It's missing the motor, but the rear end is all there. Maybe I should drag that puppy up and see what it has for brakes. Maybe I can get a...

    Band to bisc brake conversion?

I have a live-axle 2 seat kart (possibly a Ken-Bar Streaker) with a 6.5HP clone on it. The stock setup used a band brake, and it doesn't have much stopping power, especially with the added weight of me (225lbs). With just the kids (or small adults) it's not so bad. I'd like it to be safer for...

How to slow down a kart?

Thanks for the help linksep - I'll look into that. They actually just opened a TSC about 5 miles from my house... Way better than Harbor Freight, which is about an hour or so away on the other side of Atlanta! Might have to grab a tach from there. Would be nice to have the hour meter as well!

How to slow down a kart?

I'm telling you it hauls serious A$$... No shens here. I have a camera clamp - going to get a video of it going wide open. I didn't think it would do that kind of speed either until I took it for a spin with my GPS on board. I don't think the governor is doing its job - it sounds like it's...

How to slow down a kart?

Duh! That would work! Should this setup be going that freaking fast? I plugged the numbers into the calculator and came up with something closer to low 20's. On my first ride, it didn't quite feel like 20 so that's when I went for the GPS!

How to slow down a kart?

I know this place is mostly people asking about going faster, but I want to go slower! Here's what I'm working with: It's a two seater with a live axle. I slapped a 6.5HP Harbor Freight clone on it. The governor is still on it - the only change I made was adding the AGK throttle kit. The old...

    Mounting throttle cable

The AGK kit that devino246 linked to works great. I just got done doing mine with the AGK kit and had it installed and running in no time flat. Well worth the purchase.

    Sprocket size question

Sorry, the pic is from my cell phone... In very bright light it's amazing, but in anything else it doesn't pick up the shutter speed enough and everything's blurry! Anyhow, that's the 6.5 horse clone. Just checked the tires and they're 13x5x6 on the back.

    Sprocket size question

Sorry, here's a pic of the kart. Nothing special (yet). Will update on tire size in a few hours when I get home. Thanks for the advice!
