Update. I took a reciprocating saw to the offending oil drain plug and have the engine positively mounted. The true and actual pulley distance is 7 3/4 inches. I had a new belt, but it was not correct. I will update my earlier post.

I'm in the same boat as the OP. I have a Dingo 388-05 (I think) that has a blown Briggs, but a good (fingers crossed) Comet 40 series TC. I was going to repower with the 212 Predator, but that 1 inch PTO shaft on the TC made me go with the 301 Predator. Picked it up last night at HF for $199...
