Starting at age 10 I got a Honda mini-trail 50cc. From there I moved up to over a dozen CT70s from 69-74. 2 were the HKO 4 speeds. A Hodaka Road Toad ended my dirt bike phase by the time I was 16. A CB350 Honda, CM400A Honda and a 883 Harley Davidson Sportster with a seriously reworked engine ended my motorcycle days 20 years ago. So a week ago Saturday I just happened to be driving past a Honda dealer ship. I decided to stop in and dream a little. I knew the monkey bike was back out. I had heard the CTs (DAX) were coming back out and I really wanted to relive my childhood for a few minutes. The Monkey and CT by the time you figured in the shipping and sales tax were over $5,000!!!!! That’s nuts! But, the XR150 I could get out the door for $4,100. Guess what? Yup! I Doodit!!!View attachment IMG_0015.jpegView attachment IMG_0013.jpeg

No insert image option? Are you on a hell phone?

I got an XR150 too, it's a decent trail bike and destined to run forever (low stress motor). Check it out:

Both images were a bit huge at 5712 × 4284, probably straining the limits of the forum software and the message body. Just because you can shoot at huge resolutions doesn't mean you should

I was lucky to be able to figure out how to take a picture on my fone in the first place. Apple My Fone 17 no option to insert image.

So on with my story. I go to pick it up because the roll back they were using to deliver it the day before got totaled when a woman ran a red light. 2 blocks from the dealer. My bike was unhurt thank God. I show up finish the paperwork guy gets the ramp to load it. I realize I haven’t even sat on it yet so I get on it in the show room. It fits good! But it is taller than I’m used to. Getting off the bike in the showroom still my shoelace gets caught on the bike. Me and the bike go a$$ over tea kettle. :lolgoku: No one around to even laugh at me. Or get the bike off of me. Finally the guy with the ramp shows up and lifts the bike off of me. We get the bike loaded and tied down in the truck and I finally realize I broke a couple of ribs. :mad2:
Go into work (I work in a hospital) and confirm my diagnosis later that night. :censored: I had made arrangements with my brother to store the bike in his garage as I have not built a new barn that my insane father had bulldozed with all my tools and equipment in it. So I go and meet my brother at his new house after he gets off work. I’m early so I decide to unload. Back the truck up to the hill, take off the straps and start unloading it. There is a gap between the tailgate and the hill. The bike goes over it and gets pulled over to the opposite side. We go down again. Both times not a scratch on the bike or mark anywhere. Me however I got scratched up from my knee to my ankle on my right leg. Bleeding like a stuck pig. :smiley_omg:I haven’t even started the bike for the first time yet!! I get myself and the bike back up. Start it up and take it for a ride. It’s 32* outside I put only a mile on it and park it in the garage when my brother shows up.
With no further incidents. :wai: Seriously thinking about selling it.

People are raving about the basic-bone Hawk 250.

Sell it to your brother for 5k and make a few. Pain and suffering...
He’s 3 years younger and in worse shape. He needs 2 new hips. Besides he’s too cheep!

That is the same button I’ve been using Hellion. I don’t know what’s going on with trying to post pictures on my end.

Thats the cg200/250 that I used in El Chingon. Made to be neglected.
Learned a bit from the Hawk crowd.
Easy beginner bike.

They say the Hawk 250 mill is derived from the Honda CG125 which is a OHV pushrod engine designed for neglect just as you say. When Honda went to chain driven overhead cams on everything else (i.e. progress) they went backwards on the CG125 commuter motorcycle sold in developing nations where riders there did little to no maintenance. The OHC design tends to wear in the camshaft bearings when oil changes are skipped. The Chinese bumped up the displacement and even added a balance shaft.

Without the stickers, you can see the plastics, frame design and overall config is nearly identical to Denny's XR but with the Hawk you get an upgrade rear disc brake. Too bad the Honda still has a drum [sad trombone sound]. Hawk also has electric and kick start.

Probably the best SHTF bike you can buy under 2 grand. Just my two corroded zinc pennies.

Hey Denny,

I'ma havin' a "rush" of emotions...here o_O:eek:
Kool!
WOW!
WTF!
You OK...my friend??
Just in a lot of pain right now. Can’t lay down, can’t sit, can’t stand and be comfortable let alone breath without sharp pain. But I’m kinda sure I’ll live. Thanks Kevin.

I’ve ridden china bikes Hellion and there is a difference in quality and the way they ride and handle. If you don’t know the difference it won’t bother you. But if you do it will drive you crazy! It drove me crazy when my neighbor had one a few years ago and I rode it. It also started falling apart after about 2 years of older adult driving. Was not impressed. I’ll just stick to the Hondas. Yea, they cost a little more but for less of the little things that annoy me it’s worth it.
