Hello! Being new to this forum and the go Karting world appreciate the opportunity to be here. I continue to destroy belts on my son's bmx go kart. Everything seems to be aligned properly but I am not understanding the rest of the clutch functions. Any help is appreciated!

You sure you got the right belt? Some are V belts and some are asymmetrical with a flat vertical side [in profile]. I'm gonna wait for Denny, he's the eggspurt.

Oh, Jinx.

Oh, Jinx.
I honestly don't know, a local guy did the work putting the clutch on. We got rid of the gy6 that had low compression and put a predator 212 on it.

What's the teeth on the sprockets? Not an "I think it's X" but an accurate count.
Sprocket 1 teeth =
Sprocket 2 teeth =

What is the height of the rear tires?

Let me have a looksie. You have a 30 series Torque Converter. You have the belt in the correct orientation. It has either a 10 or a 12 tooth sprocket. You didn't give us that but that's ok.
A 10 tooth with your 60 tooth rear sprocket is 6:1 gear ratio. That's great with the size tires you have.
If it has the 12 tooth then you have a 5:1 with is a little bit high but your tires look on the smaller size. Possibly 18 or 20 inch?

What i do see in this pic is that the driver unit is not retracting the sheaves. Possible broke spring in side or possible mis-assembled?

Im also assuming that the belt is binding up the driven unit also. The buttons are on the correct side but the sheaves should be closed.

If denny gets here he will give you the lecture about belts.

Dig in a bit and post pics. It helps us help you.

Maybe it’s just gunk or the lighting, but there’s a spot I might hit with a rat tail file or sumthin. It looks too jagged to me.

it seems I can’t add images but the center part of the driver unit has 4 rounded grooves. One looks jagged in the photo.

Both of your clutches are stuck in the high gear range mode. They should only be in those positions at top speed wide open throttle. The picture you show in post
#1 of the inner clover leaf part where the slider goes through is absolutely filthy. Get yourself some scotch bright, some 320 grit wet and dry sandpaper and a can or two of brake parts cleaner. Also a good set of snap ring plires ( for the driven unit ) and watch several videos on how to service a 30 series torque converter. Once everything is clean enough to eat off of and SMOOTH, put it back together bone dry. No lubricant at all. Basically both of your clutches are stuck. The driver closed and the driven open. Not that many parts. If you pay attention to the videos you can get through it.

Looks like you revved the driver without a belt on it, thats why it stuck in high gear as mentioned above.

There is a collar (bronze bushing) that the sheave will get stuck on if there is no belt holding it back. Cant get it unstuck without disassembling it. Youll understand what I mean after you take it apart.

Will the sheaves of the driven pulley (the rear one) “relax” and close up with the belt removed or is it fully stuck open? Keep us updated Hosk67.

Great analyses, doctors. Always learn something new. This is why photos are king.
*The product photo in post #7 is helpful because it shows how it should appear at rest/engine off.

When I installed this belt I had to open the driven pulley by hand in order to get the belt far enough to slip onto the drive pulley

Well now it’s your turn to become proficient in all things CVT/Torq-A-Verter/Torque Converter. Fascinating topic. 😉
