After making sure the carb/intake and exhaust is sealed up and leak free, I will...

1.) Attempt to start the engine
if it doesn't start
2.) Try starting by spraying carb cleaner into the intake.
if it starts and wants to run, clean the carb , if not ...
3.) Try stock spark plug.
4.) Try ~0.027" coil gap, but don't think 0.005" will make much of a difference (~0.032" now)
5.) Try stock flywheel key

I think that would be the correct order from easiest to most involved

Stuff I need to bring that I forgot last time...

Carb cleaner
Stock Spark Plug
Stock Flywheel Key
Pokey Wire
Feeler gauges
10mm socket
Impact Wrench

It ran before, it should run again. I don't see any reason why I shouldn't be able to get this started using my plan of attack.

There's your problem.
Let's see if I can get that out.

Had spark but at the wrong time.

So my new small engine diagnostics plan of attack is....

Fuel
Spark
Compression
Timing

All you need to make it run.

Happy I was able to find the problem. There is still hope for bartender mechanics.

As far as I know, the key should be installed so it is parallel with the straight part of the shaft, not the taper.

That is how I installed the offset key as well.

What are the wheels for again?

Mostly for the dog to bite at.

I don't have a 3/4" clutch or TC to test the engine with a load.

I'm deciding if I want to use the 6" Driven with the 8T JS sprocket OR the 7" Driven with the 10T JS sprocket. I think I've decided on the 7" w/ 10T. 10T will be better for the chain and sprocket. And some had said that the 6" Driven pulley acts as a rev limiter. I'm not sure I buy it, but 6" with 8T and 7" with 10T are very similar. Both 4.5:1 in highest gear with a 40T rear sprocket.

The 7" costs like $30 IIRC, so the $60 TC is now $90. I don't need an 8T sprocket, so I save $15 there. The springs and weights for the Driver unit are like $15 and $30.

$135 - $150 (w/shipping) for the TC kit, the 7" Driven Unit, The garter springs, and the Driver Unit weight assembly.

Driven Unit was backwards in this video.

I don't really care about money. And I usually only have enough of it to do one thing I enjoy. Building this engine means I haven't gone out on a date in over a month.

At least I don't have those common parasites everybody else seems to get. What are they called? Oh ya, kids.

I get to spend my money on me.

Ambush Racing Hemi 2716 - 34 Degree Timing
No Instructions. I was hoping for a recommended coil gap.

Looks like it was made for the spot light.
I really want to show it off, but really want to be able to use the pull starter.

Without buying a Jr Dragster Mini Starter, are there options? What happens if my engine dies while I'm out? I have to ride around with the starter on my back? Or push it back to where I started it last?
