I learned this trick from my father who routinely added a threaded pipe extension to the engine oil drain plug on Roto-Tillers, lawnmowers and the like. But it is hardly anything new and there's plenty of these hacks seen around the web.

This little trick both facilitates a clean, mess-free oil change procedure as it prevents oil from dribbling down the block base and under the mount and also just makes the whole thing easier because oil changes are something we desperately need to keep up with. -->> These engines don't have oil filters so frequent oil changes are a must for long engine life. Anything to make the routine easier is a big plus.

I used a brass pipe nipple and brass pipe cap. The threads are 1/4" MIP (Male Iron Pipe) on the former and FIP (Female Iron Pipe) on the latter.

The beauty of the pipe threads is that they're tapered and they seal the more you tighten them. I think I will add some Teflon plumbers tape to the nipple for extra insurance.

I like that Idea Hellion. To make it even easier, have you considered putting a 90° elbow pointing down. This way when you pull the plug oil does not shoot straight out.

And those are just typical 1/4" "pipe" threads

There is a hose that is an accessory that Honda sells that is a remote oil hose...
I reckon it's for hard to get at areas, for which the motor is buried within the machine...
I keep meaning to add one of these to my bike on the next oil change, with a petcock...

Cool idea... It makes things easier...

Hey all,

I am currently seeking out someone who has identified the Metric threads on the Predator 212cc and if there is a equivalent nipple and cap for them? Anyone? I know Sid knows the thread size...

I've seen people do the 90° elbow pointing down but this was the cheapest and least complicated (bare bones)... although brass is pretty expensive... I like the "bling" factor. :D

Hey Bar-B-Que, have you seen my other thread for the item you're crying over?

Since this is the second thread metioning it....earlier...I just said pipe thread.....Well...it's NPT....National Pipe Thread.

AKA Iron Pipe. Your hardware store may have this listed as 1/4" MIP
Male Iron Pipe or FIP Female Iron Pipe these are NPT threads.

Yeah...so...are you ready for this?

Galvanized and brass fittings both can be NPT. EXACT same thread...tapered and EVERYTHING!!!!

So....why only the black pipe ?

Warning: Off topic!

I had a friend, a very funny guy, with a rather ignorant and stupid wife.

He was working on his old Willy's Jeep when something happened, and the jeep rolled down his dirt driveway, hit an embankment, and flipped upside down.

Shortly after this incident, his wife comes home from work and sees the Jeep upside down in the driveway.
She asks, Wayne, what are you doing?!

He responds, I'm changing the oil!

She says, well hurry up, we have to go soon.

^^^ Of course, there's also things like this: http://www.ezoildrainvalve.com/ They have a lengthy application chart in PDF...

And the Drainzit... http://www.drainzit.com/. The hose dangles from the engine so there's an attached tether for it.

I read somewhere that the hose material wasn't material that was certified to withstand the heat and oil pressure from a typical engine. A reviewer couldn't find product documentation supporting it either way so its longterm reliability was brought into question.

I had thought about that in the past a little while ago... I was looking into a piece of hydraulic hose with a 90* swivel..... That for sure will handle the heat and anything else you throw at it...
I think most hydraulic fittings have multiple types of threads... one surly to fit...

Here's a screenshot of the fleabay auction minibiker found. I'm not going to pay 14 bucks for that little doo-dad but I will investigate these specs to see if an equivalent plumbing piece fits a Predator drain plug.

Well that at least answeres the question... The Predator drain is 10MM threads.
No need for the conversion to NPT, just find a 10mm tube and cap. Easy Right! LOL

I'm thinking about removing the gov. on my 212 that would be a great time to rethread the oil drain hole if necessary . Also epoxy in a magnet in the oil case.

Chinese threads are straight, US threads are tapered. How a US made 10mm nipple fits is anybody's guess. (Use extra Teflon tape)
