Really?
again ill advise Spindle??

So a TAV2 kit (Series 30 TC with cast backplate) is capable of handling 8hp by design..
and more than a handfull of users around here have that installed on a 10+ hp modded 200cc engine..
So less than seven is just plain WRONG!

Sure a series 40 would be much better (much less belt wear)
BUT... and here's the point.. most if not all series 30 and 40 TCs you find on ebay are chinese clones.
THOSE can be found in china as well (alibaba and alike)
for much less than what they're advertised on ebay at times.. and often times (almost ALL the time) for much much less shipping than from the US
IDK you import taxes... but very likely they're much less than 100%, right?
So even if the Series 40 on alibaba costs around USD 70 shipped.. that'd be 140 at your door..
http://www.alibaba.com/product-detail/40-Series-Torque-Converter-3-4_60474690383.html
(see single kit both pulleys... no belt... 55USD max plus shipping)

You'll have a hard time justifying a series 30 with that price IMHO ;)

Anyways.. still a series 30 will work nearly perfectly fine.
you'll eat through belts nearly twice as fast though (20 per belt... still not a cheap option) but other than that,
it'll work if you don't try too hard to kill it (insanely bad gear ratio or climbing the kiliman ;))

13hp is about the limit though.. if you mod your engine, you'll likely be able to effictively bend the backplate at one point.

Can I buy one unit off that alibaba site or is that just for wholesalers who are getting a hundred or so? Anyone buy things regularly there?

If you want to downgrade I will buy the gx, or I will pay shipping if you want to give away- you DID get it for free. Looking at 100$ or less (have to fix first)

alibaba is a B2B platform alright.. I picked a selller with 1 unit min order
(for a reason ;))
I bought stuff there in the past.. is a hair awkward missing convenient to us payment systems.. but it worked all the time.

Not really.. but they both should be able to accept it with some modification.
first: shaft size on both engines will likely be an inch, and that needs to be kept in mind when ordering the TC.

more important: the block on both engines is IIRC slightly larger than the one of a GX200;
thus you might run into an issue with one of the oil plugs
(search for supermanotorious' thread where he installed a TAV2 on a 420 predator)
I think following his advice should enable you to install it to the GX390 as well..
(the predator is a clone... so it's close enough I guess)

I'm unsure about the 270... either the 270 or the 290 is where the crankcase is a so called "big block" already that might need such mod.

Powerwise, again, the belt will wear faster (due to the additional torque) than anticipated,
but other than that I doubt there's an issue with it as long as you play nice ;)

MATCH... not exactly, no, both engines are technically above the intended hp of the TC
(which is 8hp max according to the book)
BUT as I said.. many 10hp engines run a Tav2 kit successfully, Ryan installed it on a 420 predator (13hp) and although it's a winch not a kart or bike, it works well enough.

The rest is gearing (the "play nice" factor)
So yeah I'm fairly certain it'll still work... if it works to your satisfaction though...
I can't tell.

If you have the slightest doubt... get a series 40 (alibaba.. just saying ;))

a syrian lady with a dying husband trying to move his wealth to "my country", a spanish lottery I won millions in or indeed that african prince.

That made me even feel a little insulted...

Email is one thing, someone with a kart build on a forum looking to trade kart parts is a little different...it's not like he's asking to trade you the engine for a set of fine China plates or a Ford Taurus transmission. Geez.

There's a whole world out there and not all of its bad. It's hard to say a whole Continent is a scam cause of a few bad apple emails.

My dad is old school and says some pretty racist things sometimes and I correct him and have to remind him not be so closed minded.

At our 4wheel event there were some guys from South Africa. They were nice guys. Enjoyed spending the day with them. At first on the trails they were thinking they were over their heads and on too hard of a trail. I told them to just relax and listen to the spotters. We know these trails well. They did and had a blast. Hope they come back next year.

I told this to my dad and he asked how dark they were.
I laughed so hard. I said south Africa is mostly white people and they had a British or Australian sounding accent.

Dont jump to conclusions.
